James Shannon born 1780 to 85, married to Mary Shannon of COunty Antrim. Children included Robert--9-9-1807, Co Antrim and an Archibald and Glasgow. Other children's names not known. Robert and wife Rose moved from Co Antrim with about 12 children in 1849. They lived and farmed near LArne, just north of Belfast. THey lived near Hamilton, Ontario, Canada until the early 1850's when they moved to the Sterling, Ill, USA area where they lived until their deaths. I am a descendant of their son THomas YOung Shannon. A researcher in Northern Ireland reported a suggestion that JAmes had come from Scotland. This is part of the family oral history as well. Given their religion--Scothch Pres--this seems likely. I have no further info on James. I do, however, have the descendants of Robert Shannon fairly well in hand. I have also had contact with descendants of the brother--Archibald or Glasgow--who stayed in the Hamilton area. Some still live there. While I have yet to make that journey or the one to Ireland. Relatives have and descednats of James were in the area until the early to mid 1900s. The last Shannon's disappeared--marrying into the Boyds. SOme may have emigrated to New Zealand. Well, I hope this connects. I, too, hope to find more and possibly earlier connections. Take care, Ed Shannon
