Widget, There are records of this Thomas Shannon in the Rockfish River area of Virginia (Albemarle Co. > Amherst Co > now Nelson Co.) where he was associated with his uncles Samuel Shannon and Thomas Shannon (a bachelor). In fact, he was mentioned in his uncle Thomas Shannon's will. The Shannon's land was near that of Alexander Reid, Sr., the father of Mary or Polly Reid, and it is likely that that is where the married ca. 1764. Thomas and Mary (Polly) seem to have remained there until at least March 1790 when a marriage bond was issued in Amherst Co. for the marriage of their daughter Jane Shannon to her cousin Alexander Reid. That couple came to Shelby Co. in 1790 with Jane's parents.
