GWB Shannon (Born January 22, 1829 to September 23, 1863) is buried in Oakland Cemetery in the section for Conferated Soldiers. He was wounded at the Battle of Chickamauga (Tennessee) and taken to a hospital in Atlanta where we died. My grandfather near could find his exact grave and tried to bring him back to Tennessee after the war. His full name was George Washington Buchanan Shannon, wife Mary Caroline Baird of Wilson County, Tennessee, my great grandfather. Although he does not have a head stone he is listed on the big confederate monument and is listed in the sextons records in the main office.Bobby Jones, the famous golfer and Margaret Mitchell are both buried nearby.
