Connie, When it comes to the Shannon/Reid marriages there is plenty of reason to be confused. In my line (or lines) they continued to inter marry until late in the 1800's. Yes, they are different lines: Mary or Polly Reid, daughter of Alexander Reid and (I believe) Jane Caldwell of Amherst Co. VA married Thomas Shannon, son of John (not Thomas) Shannon and Sarah Reid ca 1764 in Amherst Co. VA.
