The reason I put out this query is because family stories state that our John Shannon was the first cousin of George and all the rest of that family, as our John's father was the brother of George d. 1803 Belmont Co. Hope I am making that plain and not confusing. Now all that I have ever read about George d. 1803 is that he was an orphan whose mother died on board ship from Ireland and that his father left him in the care of others while the father went back to Ireland and that ship was lost at sea. No where have I ever found a mention of a sibling for George d. 1803. It is such a prominent family that some members surely have done an extensive search. Do you know the origin of George d.. 1803 - and if he had at least one brother? I would be interested in how you are connected. I found a person - Ruth Monroe Story - who was a great grand daughter of George who went on the L & C. She donated an item belonging to that George to the Oregon History Center in Portland, Oregon. I recently obtained a picture of it. I live just south of San Francisco and am originally from Portland - I plan on dropping by the History Center in a few weeks on a trip north to Portland. If you are indeed a descendant of George of the L & C, I have also recently obtained 2 articles about him from a Ranger who did research for me at the L & C Interpretative Center in Great Falls, Montana. I will anxious to hear from you and thanks for responding! Marlene Marlene DiGiovanni MarleneDiGi@prodigy.net
Marlene, Yes I am interested in anything having to do with George David Shannon (Born in 1758) and his descendants. I think there is a little mix-up about John Anderson Shannon. 1. It is not possible for John Anderson Shannon (Born 9 March 1788)to be the Son of (I believe but haven't for proof) George Shannon and Mauglra McCaughan since she died on the way to America in the 1860's and the his Father died on a trip back to Ireland in the 1860's. 2. My theory (I don't have proof but am in contact with someone from that side of the family) is that John Anderson Shannon is the Son of George David Shannon and Jane Milligan who Married in 1783. I will keep in touch with you if you like and try to get more information.
