    3. I am interested in the data presented by Cynthia Russell, regarding her Shannon ancestors, including Thomas Shannon. My 4-great grandmother was Susannah Shannon Ewing, wife of Andrew Ewing. I have an approximate year of birth for her as 1737, in Pennsylvania. She died on 31 Oct 1818 in Nashville, TN. Family records state that she was the daughter of Thomas Shannon, but do not otherwise identify him. Could he be part of the family that Cynthia describes? My Ewing and Shannon ancestors appear to be closely linked. There were several other marriages between these two families over the course of several generations. The families seem to have lived in the same vicinity, first in the Philadelphia area, then in the Augusta (present-day Rockingham) County (VA) area, and finally in the Nashville, TN area. Susannah Shannon Ewing's father-in-law was William Ewing, generally referred to as William Ewing of Rockingham (VA). It is known that he was married to Ann Shannon, but it is unclear as to whether she was his first (and only) wife or his second wife. Thus it is not clear whether she was the mother or step-mother of Susannah Shannon Ewing's husband, Andrew Ewing. Some Ewing researchers have claimed that Ann Shannon Ewing is the same person as the Anna Shannon mentioned in the 1737 Lancaster Co (PA) will of Thomas Shannon, but I am convinced that this Anna Shannon married William Crowe. Thus I am still searching for "my" Shannon connections. I'd appreciate any thoughts or ideas or information that anyone has. 3. Pete, my grandfather's name was John Ewing Shannon, indicating a link between the families. Also, the "Nashville area" you refer to is Wilson County, the next county east of Nashville. My line was in Wilson County from the late 1700s until my grandfather came to Texas in 1900. The lived to the southwest of Lebanon, the county seat.
