Friends, Samuel Shannon was a prolific writer of interesting (and surviving letters) or the sort that Michael Shannon has been sharing with the list. We was not the last of his line to leave interesting letters. The web link that follows is a letter written by his great grandson, John S. Shannon while on a wagon train West in 1863 to his cousins in Lincoln Co. Missouri. The original was preserved an passed down from his cousin Elizabeth Shannon Reid (my great grandmother) and is now in my collection of family materials.
