Linda, don't feel alone! I have been on this site for 2 years to find a family for my Charles Shannon bn. in Pa. abt 1789. He was in Athens Co Oho with wife Ellenore before 1810.. No luck yet. Elaine Erb McBride
My Shannon's are Hugh Shannon, originally of county Antrim Ireland and Cathrine Bronson of Virginia then Owen county Kentucky. Son William Shannon married Nancy Ritchey and they moved to Mc Lean county Illinois. Linda
Hi Linda: my line of Shannon's are a very distinct family from South Carolina. Someone in the family wrote a "family history" attaching them to a Patrick Shannon who came into New England...but, everything points to our family being from "John" Shannon who was living in Fairfield county, SC and died there in 1800...a widower who left 3 orphaned children; Charles John SHANNON, b. 1792, an older sister, Mary SHANNON who m. John David WINN...and Rachel SHANNON who we can find no further record for. Who were your Shannon Aliens? My Shannon's aren't of the same line as anyone else seems to be. So I do a lot of onlooking and hoping. I checked your 45,000 names and believe it or not...none are mine. Pathetic huh...lol. Of my line, I'm the last. Linda If the web is alien to you let us do your research for you AlienWebResearch.com When it has to be done right.

I have never been able to find my greatgrandmother Ann Shannon of Philadelphia who married Winfield Scott Densten of Southern New Jersey about 1890. They had two daughters,Amelia -my grandmother and Adelaide who died young and is buried in Eglington Cemetary,NJ. I have written to the list before about Ann with no luck. The only other info i have is that Ann was also married to a Ship's captain by the name of McDonald/MacDonald who supposedly died at sea before she married Winfield. Winfield did not support her and she left him and her children to return to Philadelphia. My father said she worked up till a week before her death. He was born in 1924 so she was alive up until that time. I was told she lived in the Spring Garden area. Their children were raised by Winfield's mother's brother, Isaac Fowler, who was a preacher in Thoroughfare,NJ . Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Sandy Hoffman

Joyce, My Shannons were in what is now Lancaster Co., below Lancaster in what is now Bart. It was sadesbury at the time. Thomas Shannon was one of four brothers who came over from N. Ire. As to what we look like, it seems the Shannon head is sort of like an inverted pear, prominent forehead and tapered chin. Thomas' son samuel was my ancestor. He went down into what is now Giles Co.,Va. A place called "Poplar Hill". It is near Pearisburg. Descendants still live there. He went on into Tenn., and his son Joseph went on to Logan Co.,Ky, then Washington Co.,Ark. Common names are Thomas, Samuel, William, George, Ann, Margaret and Catherine. Welthy, You should be commended on all your help. I read every EMail on the Shannon list but have been unable to find anything so far on my Shannon's from Ft. Wayne and Huntington, Indiana. Everything I read is interesting though as it gives a great sense of history. I think my Shannons originally settled in PA but I'm not sure. A client named Martin Shannon mentioned that his family was from PA. The next time he came in I was looking him over very carefully to see if he looked like us. I must not have been very subtle because he told me that the reason he looked bad was because his daughter was getting married the next day. Actually he didn't look bad at all, I'm sorry I made him self-conscious. I was sane before I got into genealogy. Joyce Z
Hello Listers, I had posted this query sometime ago, but I shall try again. I am looking for information on Samuel J. Shannon, b. 1818 in Co. Clare, Ireland. He married Sarah Washburn in Brown Co., OH.in 1841. I would love to find his parents and when he came to America. Samuel and Sarah had 13 children and I do have all of their names. I have quite a bit on Sarah, as her father was Cornelius V. Washburn, the famous Indian fighter. Samuel was a "circuit rider". Any and all info deeply appreciated!!! Beverly Peterson
Charles John SHANNON, b. 1792 in Winnsboro, Fairfield co., SC m. 24 Nov 1818 to Martha Allison ENGLISH. They lived and died in Camden, SC where he built her a lovely mansion to give birth to their 10 children. The last pregnancy was triplets and with the birth of these triplets, Martha died and Charles John SHANNON married Harriet Letitia WINN of WINNSBORO. Harriet cared for the 10 children but did not have any of her own. The children were:1. Thomas English SHANNON b. 27 Dec 18202. John Joyce SHANNON b. 18213. William McCreight SHANNON b. 1822 (famous attorney and author in Camden, SC and also part of the famous SHANNON vs CASH duel that ended all duels in America)4. Allison SHANNON b. 18245. Charles John SHANNON II b. Feb 22, 18266. John Allison SHANNON b. Sept 21, 18287. Margaret Allison SHANNON b. 18308. Martha Allison English SHANNON b. 1833 (triplet)9. Mary Margaret Allison SHANNON b. 1833 (non-surviving-triplet)10.Samuel Davis SHANNON b. 1833 (triplet) ! The father, Charles John SHANNON was President of the bank of Camden, businessman and leader in the community. All the children were successful in their own right. THE BRICK WALL IS: Charles John SHANNON's father (of the same name) lived and died in Winnsboro, Fairfield co., SC. He was (reportedly) born in Ballymena, County Antrim, Ireland (that is possibly not true)...he fought in the Revolutionary war and served as a spy. (yes, we have the record) We also have the will, he died 1800 when his 3 children (the above Charles John, and two sisters Rachel and Mary) were very young. His wife was already deceased. We know he was a good friend of the Winns of Winnsboro and his daughter grew up to marry one of them (Mary SHANNON m. John David WINN, son of Minor WINN of WINNSBORO). Apparently when he was a 'spy' during the Revolutionary war, he went 'underground' because there sure doesn't seem to be much evidence of his life. There were some other SHANNON's in the area but they d! o not lay claim to our SHANNON's. I can't help but believe they are related though, they were neighbors in the late 1700's in Fairfield co., SC. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I have been searching for info about Nancy Shannon who was born Oct 30 1820 near Lexington Ky. From family records, she was orphaned and lived with neighbors. She later married John Foreman in Ohio where she lived until her death Feb 25, 1902 in Belfontaine Ohio. She was John's 3rd wife. They had 12 children--my gr-grandfather Thomas was her 4th child. I would like info about Nancy's parents and any siblings and where they were born, etc. Thanks.
