Yad Vashem, established in 1953, is the Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority. The words mean "a monument and a name" in Hebrew. The organization has been working with others to document the approximately six million Jews killed during the Holocaust. So far, they've created a database of nearly three million victims. Until now, this information was accessible only by going to Yad Vashem's headquarters in Jerusalem. Today's site gives you access to this searchable database. You can search by name, location, birthplace and other variables. Although it was a terrible time for humanity, it should not be forgotten. Hi, I am going to send your email to the Shannon mailing list and see if you get some replies from them. My only connection would be through the Shannon line. Jimmy ----- Original Message ----- From: Hazelwood hazelwood@atlantic.net Mr. Kerr, I found your COLYN information at GenCircles.com --I was wanting to ask you a couple of questions--I realize that COLYN's may not be a main line for you, as it is for me, and you may not be able to answer my questions--but I am going to give it a shot. Clifford COLYN's father was Clarence Albert COLYN b. 10 May 1894 in Otley, Marion County, Iowa and Clarence Albert COLYN's father was Antone (Tone) Colyn b. 9 November 1861 in Otley, Marion Co., Iowa --Antone was a brother to my Great Great Grandfather Ike Colyn. Clarence Albert COLYN married Roxie WICKER---Roxie died in July of 1924. I can find Clarence and Roxie and their two children, Clifford age 3 and Lyle age 1, in the 1920 US Census, however, have had no luck finding Clarence with his boys Clifford and Lyle in the 1930 US Census. Do you know if Clarence remarried after the death of his wife Roxie? Do you know anything about Clifford's brother Lyle and if there were any more children before Roxie died? Thanks so much for your time Sheri COLYNE - Hazelwood
This marriage is listed in Ross county, Ohio marriages. Is this possibly the same person as Catherine Mayberry heading a household in Monroe Twp., Allen county, Ohio in the 1850 census? Catherine Mayberry, age 57 and children William age 20, Catherine age 18, Sarah age 13 and Marmaduke age 9? Aso living in the household was James Shannon age 27. A Wells Mayberry, age 22, his wife Rebecca, age 23 and son Alexander age 1 are on the next page past Catherine and the other kids. I'm thinking this Catherine Mayberry might be the the mother of Hannah Shannon who married William Mayberry in Putnam county, Ohio, especially since I found that A. James Shannon was a witness at Wells Mayberry's wedding, so was likely a relative. Welthy Nachtigal

I previously sent this message, but had somehow blocked any responses. I am new to this usergroup and seeking information regarding the family of Martha (Mary) Shannon, who married John Grant in Marshall County, Tennessee on January 1, 1838. John, his wife Mary (or Martha) and their children moved with the remainder of the Thomas Grant children and their families to Mississippi, probably in 1840. According to the 1850 State Census for Pontotoc, County, MS, John Grant was 45. Mary Shannon was 30. Their children were David, Jackson and John S., ages 4,2,and 2, respectively. Shortly after the census was taken, daughter Levinia was born. While I have not been able to determine the date they left Mississippi, they show up in Mitchel TWP, Poinsett County, Arkansas on the 1860 Census records. By that time, another daughter, Jane, was 2 years old. Daughter Sarah was born in 1861. In the 1870 Census, the records were absent of John, suggesting he probably died sometime after 1861, but before the census was taken. At that time, they were living in Scott TWP, Poinsett County, AR. The oldest child, David was not listed, suggesting that he had either moved on or died. I have not pursued that issue. I am seeking any information regarding this family. Allen Grant <'\\\>< http://home.houston.rr.com/agrant/genealogy/clangran.htm

----- Original Message ----- From: JMarieEdm@aol.com To: jimmyk@bigfoot.com Sent: Sunday, July 18, 2004 2:04 AM Subject: Shannon Genealogy Dear Jimmy, I am doing research on my parents families and on my mother's line (Eva Knight), I was researching a Shockley connection. In researching the Shockley line I discovered a Shockley (William L. Shockley b. 7-31-1891/d.12-4-1947) married a Shannon (Eva Bell Shannon b. 12-29-1895/d. 5-13-1987) who are buried in Clinton, Laurens County, SC. This info on the above Shockley and Shannon was from a Lesley Hughes. In my research, I have discovered that there was a Shockley reunion in Washington. I also learned through researching my mother's line (Eva Knight, b. 12-23-1914 Gordon, AL/d.8-24-1998, Albany, GA) that there was a Knight reunion in 2001 in Seattle, WA. This info was from a Lisa Knight, wife of Glenn, son of Howard P. Knight, son of Glenn I.W. Knight, son of William Henry Harrison Knight. Lisa Knight mentioned that this was a fun line to trace as there are lines of female descendants with only 1 male at the end of each generation. Lisa stated her son Paul was the only Knight male to attend the 2001 Knight reunion except for her husband and her father-in-law. My mother Eva Knight Edmunds was the oldest of 6 (5 girls and 1 boy); mother's brother Sam Knight had only 1 son (Sam Jr.) and Sam Jr. had only one son who was married a few years ago and my Uncle Sam and my Cousin Sam were teasing the remaining male Knight that it was up to keep to continue this line of the Knight ! Family. Lisa also mentioned a book - this book info was from a Robbie Knight which he stated was the Knight Family Reunion Book from 2001. Apparently this book contained info about William Knight b. Abt 1765, m. Elishiba b. 1771 and died 7 Feb 1856. Robbie Knight stated he would like to share info. I know all of this can be very confusing. I also have a connection to the Anderson family through my mother (Eva Knight). I have learned of this Anderson genealogy recently and found that Anita Knight Drennon has a Knight/Anderson connection also. Her Anderson line goes as noted: Sarah Elizabeth (Sally) Anderson - her GGGGrandmother was on her father's father's side with 10 children in this family. This lineage goes: Sally, daughter of John Jr Anderson b. Abt 1759 in Duplin Co., NC; John Sr was b. Bet 1730-1740 in VA; James was b. Abt 1691 in VA; Robert Jr was b. Abt 1663 in New Kent Co., VA; Robert Sr was b. Abt 1640 in New Kent Co, VA; Richard Jr was b. in England/died in VA; Richard Sr was b. in London Jan 1584. Anita Knight Drennon's Knight connection is through Sally Anderson's sister Mary "Polly" Anderson who married Aaron Daniel (Daniel is on Anita's grandmother Rachael Elizabeth "Betty" Knight's side. Another sister of Sally's, Rebecca Anderson married Abner ! W. Sweat Abt 1814 in Tattnall Co, he was born 1776 in Cheraw District SC and died in Columbia Co. FL. In my research on my mother Eva Knight Edmunds family I have discovered these above stated names continuing - Rebecca, Eva, Anita, Abner, etc. Since there has been extensive research on the Shannon family I was wondering if you or some other Shannon researcher had discovered any connections stated above. PS, lastly but not least. My father Elam Dempsey Edmunds b. 24 Sep 1908 in Amity, Lincoln Co., GA; died 30 Jul 1970 in Colquitt, GA and his parents/my grandparents were Frederick Levi Edmunds and Sarah Elizabeth Edmonds (no connection so far) had family in Lincolnton, GA, McCormick, SC, Edgefield, SC. My GGGGGGgrandfather was Alexander Edmunds who left KY and came to SC after the REV. His son Samuel Calhoun Edmunds had Mapleton Plantation located in New Bordeaux SC. Through my Edmunds line, i.e. my father Elam Dempsey (Demp) Edmunds, I have a Newby line. My GGGGgrandfather was Frederick Harris Edmunds b. 1827 who married Mary Jennings and their son, James Winfield Edmunds married Louise Cornelia Newby. James Winfield's brother John Francis Edmunds was married to Sarah Newby, sister to Louise Cornelia Newby. John Francis Edmunds' 2nd wife was Augusta Ann Harris. The Edmunds married into the Furqueron family. In discovering this connection I connected up with John Fur! queron who lives in Washington and we have shared info as he goes back home to SC to visit and I have been going to SC annually since 2001 to visit family (attend reunion through my grandmother - Sarah Elizabeth (Lizzie) Edmonds whose parents were Reuben Buckner Edmonds, II and Mary Jane Poss. As you can see, the various lineages are becoming even more confusing but I am enjoying the research and filling in the blanks and completing the puzzle. My oldest brother, Samuel Eugene (Gene) Edmunds and myself, Janice Marie (Janice) Edmunds are leaving tomorrow, after lunch - 7/18/04 to go to Lincolnton, GA, Washington, GA, Edgefield, SC, McCormick, SC, etc. to spend the week on genealogy research of our various and sundry families. Thank you for your patience. Hopefully, we can find a common bond through some of the above lines. We are currently researching the following families - direct lines - Edmunds and Edmonds families, Kennedy, Poss, Harris, Newby, Callaham, Jennings, Knight, Stephens, Snead, Wilkerson, Shockley, Anderson and more than likely Winfield, Whitfield, Owen along with even more we don't know about but could possibly be connected to also. Thanks again. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Janice Marie (Janice) Edmunds - Albany, GA.

My maiden name was Shannon, but I have so many dead ends that I put the Shannon-Nehring side on hold and worked with my Braswell-Yow side, you may have info I need, I will have to research your Shannon lineage. I personally wanted to thank-you ahead of time, and will write and ask questions, if I should find something familiar. My Grandfather Shannon, was born in Mo. and both of his parents were born in KY. Dad told me that was about all he knew of him. His parents were killed or died, when their 3 kids(2boys, and a girl) were young. I don't know where, or how, I did find Albert James Shannon on the 1910 census in Cape Girardeaux, Mo, as a boarder and his bro-Raymond a Laborer on a farm, same town, living in the same area, not same house, and in 1920, in the St. Louis, Mo. area, I look foreward to checking out your info, you may have a link I am missing. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Shirley & Elaine, I wonder if your Andrew Jackson Shannon came from my John Shannon, b. 1755, came into the Mercersburg-Chambersburg area in PA from MD. He was in the Am. Rev. He bought a large farm and settled in Rockland, Venango Co. PA. His brother Alexander bought a large farm next to him in the early 1800s. A few years later the elderly parents joined them and lived with their son, John. These sons had large families. Some of them moved on to Pittsburgh, PA; others settled in Ohio, etc., while others stayed near the family homestead.
