    3. Hi Joyce, I also have a lot of the old "Shannon Searchers" newsletters and of course would be willing to share anything I have. After all these years I haven't found back further than my second great-grandparents Joseph Shannon and Rebecca Binns who were married in 1836 in Fayette County, Ohio-BUT I do think I know who my Joseph's parents were- would you believe another James Shannon?. But so far have found no proof at all. Maybe someday. There's still a lot of "gold" in those old issues so anything we can unearth would certainly be worthwhile. Thanks a Million for all your efforts on our behalf. Welthy Nachtigal

    1. Sharon's chart
    2. I don't know if everyone could read your chart Sharon, but I could & it surely looks neat in an email. I feel sure my James does not connect to any of yours. Mine seem to have popped up like a mushroom in the Mississippi Territory. However my James Shannon did serve in the War of 1812 & I believe was enlisted on the troops way down south from KY. Have not proof of this, but all documents point this way. Joyce

    2. hi Darlene & others who have written regarding the Shannon Searchers newsletter. This was my Shannon project prior to being active on the computer........LOL. It was begun in the hopes that I could make a connection with someone working on my James Shannon line that would lead me to his parents.......sadly, this never happened. But we had fun along the way & many new researchers were connected with older ones. Also, all the subscribers were so very willing to share their research & materials. I published the newsletter for several years - late 1980s to middle 1990s. We had some wonderful members of the group that are no longer with us & their early work was so very helpful to many. I do have copies of various years left & would be happy to mail to anyone for the postage. Let me see what years & how many copies within that year I still have & about what the postage would be. I will try to post over the weekend. Would be nice to have that shelf space for more books.........hee hee. Joyce

    2. oh my...........in typing my last post, I was looking at the very old, very faded copy of the KY marriage record & as a very dear & polite friend pointed out.........I HAVE MISSPELLED A WORD. Of course it should be solemnized.......not that other word. Please excuse these eyes & not proofing my post, Joyce

    3. No, I'm sorry, Shelley. Your marriage certificate is not from my branch of Shannons. Some of my ancestors were in the Civil War, but they had settled in PA in the 1850's, having been born in Ireland. My info is certainly not exhaustive, but I can't claim your certificate on any grounds. Thanks for responding anyway! Sherry Sommers

    3. I've "rescued" the original marriage certificate belonging to William C. SHANNON and Malinda FIPPS who were married in Vermillion County, Indiana on the 28th day of January 1864. The ceremony was performed by Justice of the Peace, John VANDERZEN at Newport, Indiana. The certificate includes the required civil war era stamp hand dated July 28 1864 including the initials "J.V." as required at that time. Based on limited research I believe that this may be the same couple who were recorded in the 1880 census at Clinton, IN. It appears that two SHANNON Families were living in one house including William SHANNON age 35 born in IN to KY born parents, he was a farmer and his wife Lue SHANNON age 36, also born in IN to parents born in IN and NC respectively. They had 4 children living with them including, Samul age 13, Annie age 12, John age 9, and William age 3. The other couple living in the same house included parents Frank & Rosie SHANNON ages 27 and 21, Frank born in IN to KY born parents and Rosie born in IL to parents born in NC. They had three children including a daughter Ines KELEY age 6, Allis age 5, and Danniel age 2. I'm thinking that Frank may be a brother to William since they both show their parents as KY born. Also wondering if Ines is a daughter by a previous marriage for Rosie since she has a different last name, though Rosie is very young herself. I'm hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful old treasure can be returned to its rightful place with family. If you are a member of this SHANNON Family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. LEE and SHANNON marriage?
    2. beckydees
    3. While the Shannon list is so active, I thought it might be a good time to ask this question. In all your Shannon records have you seen a Mrs. LEE (widow) married to a Mr. SHANNON? My g-grandmother was Emeline LEE. She was born Oct. 4, 1829 in Rush Co. Indiana. I don't know her parents names but her father must have died when Emeline was young and her mother married for a second time a SHANNON. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Becky

    2. This was my source. Note the date of 1929. Maybe you could read her stone back then. I've never been there. My cousin Doug tried this year, but got there after dark and that was his only chance. 2. Joyce, Do you have any photos of the site? According to Louise Dedman the graves didn't have stones, but that was years ago. She said Samuel and Jean were buried next to each other. In the event I can get up there some time, where are they located? Mike
