(I typed in the name Shannon and some 200 plus names came up. also includes Shanahan.JK) "Missing Friends" -- an Irish database -- is now available online. Boston College has posted a database of newspaper advertisements for Irish immigrants that were published in the Boston "Pilot" from October 1831 through October 1921. The advertisements were paid for by persons looking for family and friends who had lost contact. Many of them contain important genealogical details. The website, Information Wanted: A Database of Advertisements for Irish Immigrants Published in the Boston Pilot, can be found at http://infowanted.bc.edu./

A while back genealogists sent out the word about the law may change for us trying to obtain birth certificates of our ancestors. I wrote my senator and this was her reply: " I understand your concerns that the National Intelligence Reform Act of 2004 (NIRA) could limit genealogists' access to birth certificates. As you may know, NIRA passed both the Senate and House of Representatives and was signed into law on December 17, 2004. The final law did not contain standards for obtaining copies of birth certificates. Instead, NIRA instructed the Secretary of Health and Human Services to establish these standards. I certainly hope the Secretary will take into account the interests of genealogists like you. If you are still concerned about this provision, I would encourage you to contact the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Please send all correspondence to: Secretary Michael O. Leavitt The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services 200 Independence Avenue, S.W. Washington, D.C. 20201"

Barbara: You did not tell us where your Shannon's and Scarborough's were located, but members of these two families traveled together from Virginia to Anderson Couny, TN (near Oak Ridge) and settled at Freels Bend about 1797. More info at my Shannon website located at http://home.bellsouth.net/p/PWP-shannonfamily (Look on this page: "1st-6th Generation.") Also, I believe there is information on both the Dilbeck and Wilson Families (who were in the East TN area) available on the Morgan County, TN website. http://www.tngennet.org/morgan/ Please let us know where your Shannons were located. I found this on one of my other genealogy sites. This is really good. Just go to genealogy, type in Shannon and it gives you everything it has on Shannon's in early Pennsylvania, just keep clicking on 'next hit'. The PA Archives Series and Colonial Series are online at: http://www.iarchives.com/demos_clients/public.jsp Scroll down to "Genealogy" and click on it. One can then search the PA Archives and several City Directories or you can click on the PA Archives or City Directories. By working your way through the menu choices you can actually browse the collection by page numbers. The actual images of the pages are loaded by way of a Java Applet. You then have a choice to download the image to your computer, print the image, or move forward or backward among the page images. Joyce SZ
