    2. hi Dorris, you should be getting all messages posted to the Shannon list........even the messages you post yourself. I have contacted both AOL & rootsweb, so hopefully they managed to get the problem fixed before every one started getting bumped off the list. Joyce

    2. hi Russ & others, Dexal published his book in Dec 1990. My signed copy was purchased Jan 15, 1991 - I didn't want him to run out before I got one. hee hee. I have not looked at it in years. I also see an addition (he called 1st revision). His widow did have some for sale several years ago, however I have not heard from her in years. The last address for Dexal was: 219 Halstead West Plains MO 65775 phone 417-256-7431 perhaps someone could check an online telephone directory to see if the phone number is still valid. I do not know if she is alive. Let us all know if anyone finds out, Joyce

    3. Russel, Is this the link you are looking for? Type Dexal Shannon in the search box, and it will bring up a gentleman who passed away in the late 90's, and it speaks of a book he wrote....mabe you could do a white pages phone search for the Shannons in the same city he lived , and hopefully find one of his children , and they may have extra copies. I had to laugh a little about the Witness Protection Program you mentioned below!.........it sounds like you are having a tough time hunting down the Shannon family! You and I do share the same Paternal Grandmother , Mary Jane Bowers Huff Sisk Shannon..my Grandfather was Jesse Sisk, and he died in the Civil War,a nd then Mary met your Grandpa Shannon, and WOW, she had so many more babies! I think she must have had about 12 in all, and now that I look at all she had with Charles King Shannon, it appears there is even a set of twins! Looking at the custody papers of my g-great grandmother , Amanda Jane Sisk, I came upon another Bowers name from Morgan county Missouri......appears to be Abram N. Bowers, and he tried to get custody of Amanda, (I am sending you this in a zip form), and I have other papers too if you want them.... I am wondering how Abram is related to Mary Jane Bowers, Uncle, etc.... The other day I searched the Guinn Miller Rolls (Cherokee), and there is a wealth of information on the Bowers family, ...and I think ours is definetely connected into this.. I bellieve that the Bowers were in Worth Co. Missouri at the start, because our Mary had to of met Jesse Sisk there, thats where he was from, and thats where she married him. If youre interested, I can email you what I have found off message boards on the Bowers, ......I m just not so sure yet how we connect in to them,......I am wondering how some of the other Shannon researchers of Ancestry.com knew that Mary's father was Leonard Bowers. I had been researching another surname on my moms side, THe BROWNS, and I feel like you do, "The Witness Protection Program" thing, they are the hardest bunch I ever seen to find! Im just starting on the Bowers, and hope to unwind this soon! Tommarrow im going to Missouri and do some research in Wright, Morgan, possibly Jackson, and Cass counties, and mabe even Jefferson City, mo... they have an awesome archive research there, and the courthouse is nearby, I thought I would try to get Marys death cert., and see if it shows who her parents were......also, ........if you would like me to look something up while Im there , just email me, and I will try to check my email from a libray along the way, or email me back this evening. Jimmy, I would love to contact the Shannon mailing list online, but Im dont know how, has that been helpful for you? On the last link below, is your son in the services?? Thanks again for your help! 3. rick_diana2000@yahoo.com ----- Original Message ----- From: rick cecil To: jimmyk@bigfoot.com Sent: Monday, March 28, 2005 7:21 PM Subject: Charles K. Shannon family off message boards in search of Mary Jane Bower Shannon Dear Jimmy, I am researching the Shannon family, and trying to find out more information on Charles K. Shannon's wife, Mary Jane Bowers Shannon. She is also my paternal grandmother. Mary J. Shannon's maiden name was Bower. She married a Huff, then a Jesse Sisk from Worth county Missouri about 1861, they had 1 daughter named Amanda M. Sisk(my g-great grandmother), who was born about 1862. Jesse Sisk died in the Civil War. Then Mary Jane Bowers Huff Sisk married Charles K. Shannon, and they had several other children, some born in Cass county Missouri. Amanda M. Sisk (Mary Jane Bower's daughter), married a Joseph Calvin Brown in Cass county Missouri in the 1870's. They had 4 children. Amanda died in 1886, and one of the 4 children also died in 1886. I ordered Civil War Pension papers on Jesse Sisk, and that is when I discovered that Mary Jane Bowers Huff, had remarried to a Charles K. Shannon. It appears that there was some sort of custody battle going on for AManda M. Sisk. Mary Jane had filled Pension on Jesse in 1879, ( I have the paperwork), and she again tried filing in 1920 at the age of 78 under Mary J. Shannon. On the 1920 Wright county Missouri census, Mary was living with her daughter Rosa L. Matttocks( I believe it should be spelled Maddux or Maddox, but not sure of this). The Pension papers have it spelled Mattocks also. The only census that I found Amanda M. Sisk was on the 1870 Jackson Co. Missouri, and she is listed as being a Shannon. Amanda was born in 1862, and there is one other child listed before her that must have been from the Huff marriage. There is also another Bower name mentioned on the Pension papers, and it appears he was trying to get custody of Amanda. It tells the town and county in Missouri that he is living in..... I have saved these Pension Papers to my computer, and am willing to share! I was wondering if you might have some information about the Bowers family, and who Mary Jane Bowers parents are, and where they are from or born, such as Missouri, Tn., Md, etc.? ANd I was wondering if anyone knows if they are Irish, Scottish, and if any Native American exsists. I would so love to see a picture of Mary , and any children that she had, and hopefully her parents. Thank you for taking the time to write me back, any help would be appreciated!! Sincerely, Diana ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Small Business - Try our new resources site!
