I am still looking for an verification of my ggrandmother Susannah Smith Garretson(Garrison) Shannon's death. She married Gideon W.Shannon in Jay Co,Indiana 1857.They were in Jay Co 1860 then in Blackford Co 1870.Gideon remarried and in Blackford Co 1875 and still there 1880.He and Susannah(Susan)had four more children and I think she may have died having the last one or shortly after.I did find an article saying Gideon was a crippled school teacher.I haven't found any descendants of any of these children.I believe they were of the Mormon faith. I tried to send her some but her e-mail turned up to be a bad address. Mike
Hi, I am looking for info on my grandfather, Charles Benjamin Shannon or his half brother, Robert N. Shannon. Both were born in or about the Limestone, Alabama, area in 1883 and 1885 respectively. Sometime during their lives, they moved to Jones, County Texas (close to Abilene). I have had zero luck finding anything but those dates and death dates for them. I am mainly searching for the name of their parents, but would love any info I can get! Thanks, Cindy Shannon
I didn't mention it. I was going to do some research and see what I could find for her, but I thought I would forward her info to the list and maybe some body would have the information for her. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Pdd101940@aol.com> To: <SHANNON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 12, 2005 11:02 AM Subject: Re: [SHANNON-L] Re: about Wm. Jimmy, did you mention Dexal's book? Mike Shannon
Hello Lucille, Three coincidences about your post: 1) I have a William Shannon in my line (my great grandfather, born 1870s in Canada) 2) I have a Samuel Shannon (although he went by James). He was William's uncle, and served on the Union side in the Civil War (although he was from Canada, he went the dozen miles or so to Detroit, MI, and signed up with Brady's Sharpshooters). He was at Little Round Top / Gettysburg. 3) You live in Grass Valley, California. My Shannons moved to Tulare county in 1889, and my parents live in Calaveras County, close to you. For Rita, I have a couple of Cornelius Shannons from Ballymena, County Atrim, Ireland, but one is married to Isabella McAuley and the other is married to Anna Bridget O'Ray. Since they named their sons and daughters after fathers/brothers (mothers/sisters), I'm thinking somehow we might be connected. Marie

Thanks. This is an excellent source! There is a very high concentration of Shannon's in Antrim - the last time I was over there, I actually met a Shannon family in Cushendale who invited us to tea! FYI, for those of you who have not visited yet Ireland, when you get there, note that the Antrim Coast is by far the most spectacular site in Europe! Too many people visit the Republic of Ireland and do not go to up to Ulster. Northern Ireland is very safe now. By all means, do not miss the Glens of Antrim (my favorite is Glenariff), the Giant's Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede and Bushmills Distillery. Continental Airlines now has a great non-stop flight to Belfast. When you head north from Belfast, stop at Carrickfergus (see both the castle and the ancestral home of Andrew Jackson.) A wonderful place to stay on the Antrim Coast is Ballygally Castle Hotel - but beware, it is seriously haunted! Also, you can take the ferry from Larne (just noth of Belfast) across the Irish Sea to Scotland in about an hour and 15 minutes. My favorite line is the P&O.
