    3. Hello Augustin, The name Shannon seems to be most elusive in Ireland although with my grandparents having immigrated to Australia in 1862 and marrying at St.Mary's Cathedral in 1867, I do have lots of information of them here. I feel sure that if I could find the marriage date for my ggrandparents who were Thomas John Shannon married to Mary Blake and both came from County Cavan, I could go further with the children of their marriage. I have a copy of the Marriage Cert. for my grandparents who settled and died in Glebe, NSW and also know that Robert Shannon (Cty.Cavan) married Kate McGovern from Cty Cavan and he was a brother to my grandfather, John. There were also lots of McGovern (Cty.Cavan) who settled in NSW, Australia and I have also found a John Creighton Gunn who seems to be related to them through the McGoverns. I do have the Shannon names in GV Vals. but just don't know how to find my line amongst them. Thanks for your reply to my email. -----Original Message----- From: shannon-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:shannon-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of augustin@flinthills.com Sent: Monday, 21 May 2007 5:06 AM To: SHANNON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [SHANNON] SHANNON/ GRUBB/ TAYLOR CONNECTION Does anyone have a connection of Mary Shannon married to George Shannon, and a Mrs. J. 2. Wow, the interest is the project is exciting! "America's Other Irish" is still in pre-production. We are actively fundraising through the W.B. Yeats Foundation of Emory University. Additionally, we are working on two state-specific films in conjunction with Georgia Southern University. We have received grants from the Northern Ireland Film and Television Council and also from the Ulster Scots Agency. We were a finalist in the 2006 Southern Humanities Fund. Please keep any eye on the AOI website for our timetable, but continue to address any Shannon-specific inquiries to me at mglfreel@bellsouth.net We are working with the world's best scholars on the subject of the Scots-Irish. 2. Dear Shannon "Cousins," I wanted to let you know about an exciting media project that I am working on called "America's Other Irish." It is a one hour PBS documentary that will finally explore the lasting legacy of the Scots-Irish (aka Scotch-Irish or Ulster Scots) in America. We are just concluding our pre-production phase and will begin filming this summer. The documentary will be presented through the eyes of an average American white woman who discovers that members of her extended family can be found at almost every turn of American History - from the Colonial period, the Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War, etc. etc. What will interest you is this: the family that we trace is the Shannon Family and the woman is yours truly. (Please note that the family we follow is the Protestant Presbyterian Shannon Family, NOT the Catholic Shannon's who anglicized their name form Shanahan.) We are planning to shoot scenes in and around Kintyre, Scotland and then the Antrim Coast in Northern Ireland, where the Shannon family is most concentrated. We will look at Samuel Shannon who was one of the defenders of Londonderry, and later in the film, we'll note that his grandson, Rev. Isaac Anderson, founded Maryville College. We'll follow the mythical "Four Shannon Brothers" to Pennsylvania, Virginia and down the Great Wagon Road and Wilderness Highway into North Carolina and Tennessee. We plan to shoot the Shannon Cemetery at Poplar Hill and also read the letter from Samuel and Jean Shannon about the Indian troubles. We will mention Robert Shannon who served at King's Mountain and George Shannon of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. We also plan to interview a number of prominent Americans, such as Senator James Webb. But note that we plan to question his "Born Fighting" theory and the stereotypical hillbilly redneck image of the Scots-Irish. One of the reasons that I am writing to the Shannon List is to inquire whether any of you own any Shannon artifacts such as old letters, land deeds, photos, etc. that could be included in a montage about the family. I am particularly interested in finding relics from Pennsylvania and Virginia. So please, if you know of the existence of any items that we could use in the film, please contact me as soon as possible. All Shannon contributors will receive a credit at the end of the film. I hope that you all will share in my enthusiasm for the project! We have a team of world class scholars, both in the U.S and in Ulster. We have received substantial funding from the Northern Ireland Television and Film Commission and the Ulster Scots Society. We are also a finalist for the Southern Humanities Media Fund. The Shannon Family will help us tell the greatest unknown story in American History, so your help will be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks and Best Regards, Melinda Shannon Freels Associate Producer, America's Other Irish www.redwineonline.com Visit my Shannon website here: http://home.bellsouth.net/p/PHP-shannonfamily
