    3. Hi Pat, the last for sure Shannon that I know is my ggg-gdfather Zachariah Shannon born in 1797, possibly in Virginia but lived his life in Charles County, Maryland. I think he had brothers named Burton and James although this is a guess. Clearly there was relation as proximity and then surviving spouses living in same household would support the notion. I don't know anything back further. Our DNA (that of me and a Donald Shannon who is also descended from Zachariah) does not suggest the Virginia Shannon's as a connection ergo my note to Sue suggesting that if any of Nathaniel's direct male descendents are around, it would be good if they would contribute DNA. Thanks! Kelly Shannon --- Pat Shannon <pshannon1@cfl.rr.com> wrote: > Hi - My husband is a direct descendant of Nathaniel > Shannon of Boston. 3. Hi Sue, there is a tomb stone to a Nathaniel Shannon in Boston of which I think I have a picture and there was a Nathanial Shannon in Maryland in Baltimore according to census circa 1800 or so (I forget exact date). Are you clear none of your Shannon's went to Mass. or Maryland? As to DNA, that is simply a request that direct line Shannon's of any group do one of the major DNA programs as it certainly will eventually simplify who is connected to who. Results from any of the companies can be placed on a free site, ysearch.org I did mine through familytreedna.com but I note that ancestry.com is now offering a test kit. 3. Hi - My husband is a direct descendant of Nathaniel Shannon of Boston. Our line is revealed in the "Shannon Genealgoy" by George E. Hodgdon. We have a copy of this book. IT was offered online by Quintin Publishing about a year ago - but before I could receive it, they sold out to Ancestry.com (I believe). It is online there but tedious to review. It runs completely down to my father-in-law, Charles W. Shannon of Chelsea, MA. I also will be glad to contribute any info I have if it is needed. I would be interested in specific names of those Shannons which you are studying and where you fit in! Thank you - happy hunting! 3. Kelly, the New Hampshire Shannons didn't migrate to Virginia. They stayed in New England and some went to Canada and then to Wisconsin. One branch I know of off hand went to Texas before the Civil War. You might look at the Shannons who were in Pennsylvania in the 1700s. I understand they went south. I'm sorry I don't know anything about the DNA. Witness my hand & seal this 14th day of Nov 1842 James Leeds (seal) Is William Payton the father of Mahayla Payton who married Samuel Shannon??? Does anyone know of the existence of records from this Church? If William is Mahayla's father it makes me think that the Paytons and Shannons traveled from KY to IN together and adds credence to our belief that Samuel & William Shannon were brothers. 3. Hi, I'm Linda McKee Holt. My relative was one of the three surviving Shannon girls from the Indian raid near the Fort at Vincennes in what is now Indiana. I think the three remaining girls were Amanda, Elizabeth, and Nancy (my great, great, great grandmother). This was during the Revolutionary War times. Nancy was married to Samuel McKee, the army doctor who died young. As was the custom, the boys were raised by the family of Amanda and Nancy. Amanda raised my great great grandfather, who came to Texas when grown. My husband was the one who did all the work and he passed away last year. I'll try to find more names and specific dates for you. They have got to be somewhere on this computer. 1. Re: [SHANNON] Archives & living folks
    2. hi Bev, Because of identify theft these days, it is best NOT to list personal information on anyone still living. It does happen during the times we live in & we can never be too careful. A suggestion to find someone perhaps still alive, is to use your server to find their national white pages (some servers call it their phone books) of phone numbers. Then try to get to the state you know as last residence. You might be able to further narrow your search with a city or something. Also, without giving out too much information, you can post a message to this list that you are looking for Joe Blow Shannon, perhaps born in Mississippi, about 1940. Perhaps someone on the list will be aware of this distant cousin & contact you. Is there no one in your family who can answer your questions regarding someone still alive? 3. I'd ask my GGrandfather James Shannon born about 1837. I'd ask him if he was really born in Ireland and where and who his parents were. If he couldn't come I'd ask my Grandmother (who was born in California)Mary E. Shannon Balbontin to tell me about her parents James Shannon & Rosanna Francis and if she had any brothers and sisters. I'd follow Joyce's lead and put out small portions too. 2. Bev, do you mean there are problems with the rootsweb archives? Or problems with messages posted in earlier years? Many email addresses change so I would post your questions so that everyone can see where you are in your research & what you need. Be sure to list the "W's"............who, when, where & why. If a section is listed as "private", could it be that some of the persons are still living? None of us want information posted of living souls. 3. I fall in the category of those who don't have enough information to recognize family members. My SHANNONs were also in Arkansas - but in the southwest corner. William Henry SHANNON, born c. 1799 in SC, married Mahala GRIFFIS, born c. 1805 in SC. They are found in Autauga Co., Alabama for 1840 Census and Coosa Co., AL for 1850 census. Their children moved to Columbia Co., AR in mid 1850's. Another good tool for finding messages is to search using http://archiver.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/search. Click the Advanced tab and you can limit the search to one mailing list.
