Good Mornin' Kevin thanks so much for responding. I will try to get all my facts together and email you later today. >From the 1851 census of Addington Co., Camden East, we found Thomas Shannon 49, wife Sarah 42, Elizabeth Shannon, 71 (mother), Nicholas (my great-grandfather) 18, Elizabeth 16, Sarah 11, and Thomas N. 5. The age of Nicholas matches the birth year we had, so we think this is the right family. Will send more later. Peggy Engledow Prairie Lea, Texas 41 degrees, rainy, windy and cold! I have Shannon's who emigrated to Canada during the tater famine. They settled in Grenville, Quebec and spread out from there. Associated cities are LA CHUTE, ARUNDEL, MORIN HEIGHTS, RAWCLIFF and currently in Milles Isle, Quebec. All are descendants of Robert Shannon and Maris Lowe. Robert was from Ireland and Maria was from Lowenbridge England, close to Scotland's border. My cousin Sam Gillie has also done extensive research so between the two of us we should have just about everything you might need. Thank you for taking the time to read my posting. Sam and I wish you much success in your own genealogical forays. Sincerely, Kevin O'Brien Laguna Hills, California (Sunny and 78 degrees today!)

Hello Everyone, Speaking of DNA. ... Family Tree DNA is having a 2007 Holiday Promotion. They are offering: $30 off a Y-DNA 37 marker test and $15 off a Y-DNA 25 marker test. To do the Y-DNA tests and get the discount, you must be male with the surname, Shannon. This DNA test is done on the Y-chromosome which is the chromosome that makes you male. Y-DNA goes father to son. You just have to swab the inside of your cheek. In order to take advantage of these discounts, you must notify me, Shannon Group Administrator at _cheshannon@aol.com_ (mailto:cheshannon@aol.com) . I will place the order and you will get the DNA kit and the invoice. You cannot use a credit card and the test must be paid for by 31 December 2007. You also, will have to join the Shannon Surname Group. The test itself is much cheaper if you join a group. If you need further info or prices, you must write to me offlist at the above e-mail address. Please visit FTDNA (_http://www.familytreedna.com_ (http://www.familytreedna.com) ) and read more about it. DNA is interesting and exciting. Cheryl S. Blah, it was Freeman....sorry
I haven't been on the Shannon mail list for 4 or 5 years and there was no DNA being doine at that time. I do not have a Shannon surname, but I would like to see the DNA site to see if anyone in my probably Shannon family is listed. Thanks DD
Hello, I just come at this from anyway I can and having had the experience of "proving" that my gg-gdfather was part of a family that did not show him (fallout over civil war) I think it is useful. The free site is ysearch.org There are several systems that test and record dna for genealogical research. I did the familytreedna.com and will probably take over as the monitor for the shannon group there in January (the current moderator is also a participant in this group). Kelly, yes that Nathaniel in the Granary Cemetery in Boston is the emigrant ancestor for my branch of the Shannons. He was the customs officer for the port of Boston for many years. Some may have remained in Mass but I do not think any went as far south as Maryland. I see in your other post that your ancestor was Zachariah. There weren't any Nathaniel descendants by that name. My source is the Shannon Genealogy copyright 1905.
