Michael, That sounds strange! Writing Michael Shannon. Yes that sounds reasonable. Lets see my dad was Sam William Shannon son of Leonidas Adolphus (1854), son of David C Shannon (1820) son of John D Shannon (1798) son of David Shannon (1756) son of Samuel Shannon (1727). I think everything that's in the Dexel Shannon book plus many other 'Shannon' books is located on various websites at Rootsweb.com. I have noticed a lot of sites that quote from these books. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! I too would be interested on any info on Wild Bill Shannon. The Shannon's are my fathers line and they came from Canada, Vt., N.H., and Michigan. Actually, I am interested on info on any Shannons from these areas. My father was Leo James Shannon, b. 17 Apr. 1922 in Mi. His father was James b. 15 May 1886 in Vt and his father was Edward, b. 27 Feb 1854 in Windsor Vt. The family moved back forth from Canada and the USA. James married an Indian, Josephine la Plant. Would share info with all. Thank you. Diane In a message dated 2/17/2008 10:49:06 P.M. Hi Sue On Verra Parker SHANNON's draft card it states Bobcaygeon, Ontario. On the 1901 Canada Census, he is listed as being born in the U.S. His brother, Charles Robert Maltimer SHANNON, draft card states that he was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario? Their parents were married in Sault Sainte Marie, Chippewa, Michigan, United States. It was likely an assumption made that Sault Ste. Marie was the Ontario location, rather than the Michigan location. The 1901 Canada Census indicated that the family immigrated in 1896. I have no idea when during 1896 this occurred. If you or any one can shed any light on this or give me some pointers on this mystery...I gladly welcome the help. Hello All In my husband's side of our family is a Charles M. SHANNON. His middle name could possibly be Mortimer or Maltimer. My Charles SHANNON was born March 12, 1869 somewhere in the U.S.A. It is rumoured that his family came over on the Potato Boats during the great famine. Somehow, Charles was introduced to Mary Jane McElwain who was born and raised in Galway Township, Peterborough County, Ontario, Canada. They were married in Sault Sainte Marie, Chippewa, Michigan, United States on November 30, 1893. Charles and Mary had two male children who were possibly born in the U.S.A. - Charles Robert Maltimer SHANNON (b. 13 Oct 1894) and Verra Parker SHANNON (b. 13 Nov 1896). According to the Canada 1901 Census for Ontario - Peterborough East - Lakefield area, Charles Sr. had said that he and his family permanently moved to Canada 1896 and made their home in Peterborough County, Ontario, Canada. Can anyone help with Charles SHANNON, Sr?? I have no information on his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles or siblings. H E L P ! ! ! My John Shannon came from Ireland before 1855 and lived in Virginia and married Susan Adams. He was married in Lynchburg, VA in 1855 in the Catholic church. On the marriage register it was written that he came from Clogh, Antrim Co, Ireland and his parents were Cornelius and Mary Shannon. We don't think Cornelius and Mary came to the USA. I don't know the names of his siblings but his childrens' names were Cornelius, John, Carrie, James, Robert, Maggie, Robert and Ella. It is said that he left his family by 1880 and went back to Ireland. The 1870 census has him being 60 years old so he was born around 1810.
