    3. I am really enjoying this list and am astounded at how many Irishmen named Shannon came to America. My ancestor is Robert Shannon, a Wesleyan Methodist born about 1795 in County Cork. He and his family, including his son, William (aged 3), came to Canada in 1820 and settled in Storrington Township, Frontenac County (now part of Ontario). I am having very little luck in tracing their ancestors and am now looking for passenger lists for ships that sailed to Canada or northern US in the year 1820. Can anyone help me? One source had ships for all the years except for 1820. Esther Crebbin Mitchell, Victoria, B.C. Canada

    3. Dorothy & Betty I found in " History of Clarion Co. " Chapter LXVI History of Redbank Twp. Daniel Shannon, of Northampton Co., landed at William Hoffman;s in the spring of 1822. John Shaffer having died, Mr. Shannon attempted to purchase of the heirs, the Shaffer tract of 3oo acers. After obtainining eight of the eleven shares, he solg his intresr to Joesph Miller, and in 1843 purchased the farm at Shannondale, and besides farming kept a store for many years their. His son, Christopher, is still in possession of the property, ana at present is one of the oldest and most respected citizens of the twp. Mr. James Kerr started a store at the red house on Town Run in 1830, which he moved to Millville shortly after, and then sold the same to Messrs. Shannon and McFarland, and from there Mr. Kerr moved to Clarion. Shannon and McFarland divided the store, McFarland moving his to Ringgold, and Shannon in 1848 moved his to Shannondale. Many farmes took their wheat to Clough's Mill on the Clarion River. Mr. Shannon relates that he took a few bushels of grain to the mill at Patton's Station, and while they waited for it to be ground, he and the miller's son went out to skate on the pond. The miller's son had no shoes and his feet would stick to the ice. So Mr. Shannon would skate awhile and then lend his shoes to the miller's son. Thi is all I have been able to find on the Shannon's their. Been unable to find anything in Northampton Co. If Jessi and I's Francis and maybe Welthy's Joesph belonged to his family, both would have had to be borned before the family left Northampton Co. My Francis would have been around 8 when the move west was made. The article I found has only mentioned 1 son, Christopher. Do you have names of other chrildren, and maybe a wife? You also said thre was another family of Shannon's in Shannondale. Welthy and I haven't proved Joesph & Francis were brothers, bu here in Ohio, they showed up in the same places. All I can say for sure about Francis is the census show him as borned in Pa. Thank you both for pointing me to this part of the state. I will greatlly apprecate any info you can give me on the Shannon's around their. On-line info just dosen't have them. Thank you Lois Stegal ---- hlwall@2access.net

    3. I have a James Luther Shannon born in Joplin, Missouri 5/21/1875 (city is questionable). His father was William Hugh Shannon--nothing known on DOB, location etc. Mother was Amanda Homes be 3/11/1849. James Luther was my grandfather and my mother remembers him telling that either his father or grandfather was a direct immigrant from Ireland. The dates are pretty close. One of James' sons was also names Joseph supposedly after a family member. Do you know any of the other children? Exactly what area or how long there were in Missouri? 3. Dorothy I'm not Jessie, but I have the same line as she does. I've never figured out anything on Francis's ancestory. Welthy thinks her Joesph & my Francis may have been brothers, since both were in Fayette Co. Then both later lived around the area of the Putnam, Allen Co. line. I have never found out where he died either. The last I have found of him is on the 1880 Census in Putnam Co. It also gave me another son, I didn't know they had. At that point in time, I had believe they had already moved back to Ia. I had found a article that said he had came back from Ia. to seel his land an move to Ia. I had also found the sale of that land. If you can help with where he came from, or may have, I would apprecate any info that would help me. I have considerable data on the earlier family. Descendants of the later family were still in Shannondale about ten years ago and may still live there. 3. Jessie Just hit pay dirt. I have never traced back from my Gr-gr-grandpa. I do believe I know the men back 2 generation from Nancy Jane. When she was in Fayette Co. with Arvilla & Francis Freemont, in 1850, Lucetta was staying with David Allen & his daughter Martha, in Cedar Co. Iowa. I believe this 63 yr. old man to be "Jane's" father. If so Fayette Co. History gives me Ananias Allen comming to that Co. in 1809/10, from Pa., with his sons. David being one of them. I have alot of info on a few of the ."Shannon"chrildren. I have found nothing on James S. or Elmer. I only have info on the line of one of Lucetta's chrildrens line. What have you found, and how do you connect? Will be glad to share. I have some pic's, sent to me from a decandent of Robert Thrift Shannon, with some obits. Have you ever found out what happen to them. Francis & Jane? I know she was alive when Americaus "Mack" Mayberry was married. I have the article on that wedding. I am beganning to think he (Francis) died here in Ohio, before the move was made west. In 1880 they were still in Putnam Co. That's were I found them having Elmer, the son I didn't know about. Francis had come back from Ia. and sold his land, to move back out their, before that. Will be waiting to hear from you.
