Hi Dorothy, I am sorry that I couldn't answer you sooner, my computer is old and it won't stay connected, I have to keep resetting the modem. Anyway I feel with certainty that you maybe right. Tell me what areas your people were in. My Duncans were known to be in Grainger,Roane, Morgan,Cos in TN. I am wondering what year your Agnes Duncan was born? My Craven Duncan was b.abt 1798, I am looking through all of my papers (which isn't much) Debra At 06:58 AM 03/03/2002 -0800, you wrote: >I can't make the connection for your Mary, but I suspect she connects with >my Shannons. Hi Dorothy, Thanks for the info you sent. Did you also send it to Debra? I'm sure she will be very glad to get it. I'm about as sure as I can be that the info you sent is on the family she is looking for. Many of Andrew's decendants lived in Morgan County, Tennessee at one time. Morgan County Tennessee is probably about 75 miles east of here and I have been there. Welthy

As our Shannon list seems to be growing a bit, I thought it was time for me to reintroduce myself. My grandfathers first wife was Mary Shannon, she was born 12-19-1858, Treanabontry, Bohola, County Mayo Ireland, and died 10-16-1891, at the age of 33, in Shanaghy, Bohola, County Mayo. Her parents were Thomas Shannon and Mary Lavan. Her siblings were, Michael, Patrick, Anne, Bridget and Ellen. Mary Shannon married Patrick McDonagh and they had four children, Bridget, Michael, Mary Ann and Ellen. Does this ring any bells for anyone? Ann
I have Mary Polly Shannon on my list plus her parents, siblings and family, all from Robertson County, TN if that is of any help. I have a Mary A.(Polly) Shannon who was born abt 1812 in TN. the best we can figure. My Mary was married about 1829 to Craven Duncan in Morgan,Co.TN. I would like to finally be able to give Mary her parents and siblings. Does anyone have a missing Mary Shannon? Thanks in advance for any help. Debra Debra Crowell dcrowell@tvn.net
Debra, There were four brothers who settled in New England in the late 1600's or early 170's. I never did develop the lines of the other three, only my own. I think there was an Andrew in there but I really don't know for sure. Sorry. Mike
Hi Debra, When you mentioned Andrew Shannon of Morgan County, Tennessee I knew which family you are talking about. This Andrew Shannon was a son of a William and Katherine/Catherine Shannon whom I believe came from Pennsylvania to what used to be Greenbriar, Virginia- now part of West Virginia. William received a pension for Revolutionary War service while living in Grainger County, Tennessee. What's important here is I know of 3 people who are researching that Shannon family. They are: Sylvia Shannon <bob-sylvia@shaw.ca> Brenda Jones <bjones@lanset.com> and Dorothy Willis <magister@mail.c-zone.net> Good Luck Welthy

I have a Mary Ann (Polly) Shannon Born on 11/3/1809 in NC, died 7/11/1889 in Hickman Co., TN. She married a William Finley, Jr about 1825 and they had five children.
Hi Mike, Thanks for your reply! I wish I could tell you more about my Mary, I haven't any clue as to who her parents or siblings even were. I can however speculate that an Andrew Shannon would have to be connected to her somehow. See Mary A.(Polly)Shannon as our family knows her to be married in Morgan,Co.TN. abt 1829 and on the 1830 Morgan,Co.Census there is only 1 other Shannon, Andrew Shannon 0202001 - 1021001, I am thinking that this Andrew would have been old enough to be her father but I have nothing to go on. Who was this Andrew? Who was his wife? Who are his parents/siblings? Could Andrew be the father of my Mary? I can't make the connection for your Mary, but I suspect she connects with my Shannons. I believe the Andrew in the census is connected to them too. One reason I think she is "one of ours" is the name "Duncan." But how the connection works? There I fail you. Nevertheless, here is an outline of what I know. William and Katherine Shannon recorded a deed for 395 A of land on Turkey Creek in Greenbrier County of what is now West Virginia, in 1787. The farm lay between Turkey Creek and Dropping Lick Creek about five miles south of the present town of Union in what is now Monroe County, West Virginia. They were there at the time of the 1783 Census. In 1794 they sold 195 A to Sarah Henderson. The next year they sold the rest, 200A, to Walter Neal, and moved to TN. They lived on the Clinch River, eighteen miles from Knoxville. Hi Debra, In order to help you on this, all of us Shannons would have to have Mary's parents names at the least. The more information you can give us the quicker we can piun it down. In ca 1570 John Shannon was born in Scotland. In ca 1600 he had a son, John jr. Sometime prior to 1630, they moved to N. Ireland. In that year Robert, son of John Jr. was born. Robt. had four sons in N. Ireland who migrated to New England. Mine was in Sadebury Township on a sheriff's census there in 1725. He had a son, Samuel who married Jean Reid. In ca 1784, they moved into East Tnn., to Davidson Co., from there their children later move into Logan and Warren Co. in Ky. At a later time one of Samuel's sons, Joseph moved with his children into Washington Co.Ark. Joseph's son Granville settled at Canehill and Evansville in that area. From the little information you gave, it seems you do fit into our family, so here is some "cousins" you can contact that should be able to help.
