I think most of the traffic on this site should be sent e-mail. Most of us are not interested in your Aunt Tillie SHANNON and the thousands of pages about her.
Lucy, Since I began my quest, I have discovered that my George M Shannon born Aug 15, 1832 married maybe twice...a Mary from KY, and Sarah C. Adams from IN. I found copies of their marriage license and burial sites for them and David Armstrong and Nancy Alexander his parents. Also have a copy of a will of David Armstrong. That's as far as I've gotten. Also found in same family cemetery, Charles Shannon1869-1922 (could this be another son of George M) and a Virgil R. Shannon 1906 - 1928. But tell me about Shannondale, which Shannon was it named for. Is it our group. What did they do for a living? I can't find anything about my Grandfather Earl. Amen, thank you Joyce. I'm in it for Genealogy and the historical information that goes with it. Names and numbers are much more interesting if you know what life was like at that time. More often than not you cannot find that information for your own family but can draw a parallel with those letters to find what how ancesters may have lived. Keep the histry comming. Carey Jordan
I wish to correct an assumption.........most on this list are interested in family facts/traditions and are perfectly free to post such. If anyone feels the postings are not to your liking, perhaps you should either subscribe to the digest form (which will arrive with several posts lumped together every few days), or unsubscribe. This list is for any SHANNON family, any time, any place. And since I get a copy of each post, I have not seen any that appear overly long. And there's always the delete button. Joyce, list manager
Rita, Perhaps Tommie Taylor could help you more on Samuel & Thomas Jefferson who were quakker/shakers. If I'm correct on this, Thomas J. is in her line. As to Samuel, I know I saw him somewhere, but don't remember where. It's been some time since I was active in the genealogy. I will keep looking, and let you know when I find something. Mike

Russ, Yes, I thought that was where you found my charts. I left them copies of what I had, and made copies of what they had on Thomas J. Shannon. He had an interesting diary of his trip down the Missippi, selling what the Shakers had produced and what he procured for them. He was a Shaker, as was one of the Samuel Shannons, don't know which Saml. will dig that up tomorrow for Pookie if I can. Mike
Hi, Just a note on Esther, on the chart, L.A. Busby showed her Married to James R. Ralston. She was born1776, died 1837. Beyond this he did not develop this line. Mike
Since the Lincoln Co. MO GenWeb site is a little slow right now, I have reproduced the letter below. The spelling and lack of punctuation is faithful to the original letter. Does anyone know anything about Shannondale, Indiana? While doing my research for my Greatgrand father George M. Shannon, I have run across a JJ Shannon of Shannondale. Where is it and what connection do these Shannons have with the ones I've been reading about here for so long? Thanks, Linda Shannon Widau of Kansas City, MO
Friends, Samuel Shannon was a prolific writer of interesting (and surviving letters) or the sort that Michael Shannon has been sharing with the list. We was not the last of his line to leave interesting letters. The web link that follows is a letter written by his great grandson, John S. Shannon while on a wagon train West in 1863 to his cousins in Lincoln Co. Missouri. The original was preserved an passed down from his cousin Elizabeth Shannon Reid (my great grandmother) and is now in my collection of family materials. I have posted other Shannon materials at the same Lincoln Co. MO GenWeb site. P.S. Thanks Mike for sharing the Samuel Shannon Letters. Russ Reid http://www.rootsweb.com/~molincol/letters/ltr-shannonJS.htm
Russ, It was a pleasant surprise to find another Shannon letter out there. I hope everyone shares these. I have six or seven. Some of these I got from Lewis King when I visited him years ago at Poplar Hill. He said ther were several more at one time, but someone took them and no one knows what happened to them. I think I got some from Louise Dedman(George Shannon's descendant) and some from Tommie Taylor. Thanks for the copy of the John Shannon letter. Do you have more? In 1994, I had surgery on my back . I was laid up for two months & told myself,"Okay there's no excuse now". So I transcribed all my Shannon letters. I had 300 pages. These were almost all letters from Joseph's son Granville, my Gr-Gr Grandfather. If I can EVER get these email addresses down I will really be glad! I keep losing messages through my own darn ignorance. Mike
Davidson Co., North Carolina April 10,1786 Dear Son and Daughter: I have this opportunity by Mr. McDaniel to let you know the state of health that we are in at present, Most of the family have been in a poor state of health, having a bad cold and a great pain in the breast and side, and affected them very much like pleurisy. The family has had a hard turn of it, only David and myself, but they have all got middling well over it, only Jamey, and I exoect that he is on the way to recovery. Thanks be to God for all his mercies to us. Hope these few lines will find you and your family enjoying health and happiness. I received a letter from you that gave an account of your intention to come by water this spring, but I doubt if it will be safe to come down the Tennessee River, for in all probability the indians intend to break out for war, as they are very much against the settling of the bend of Tennessee. The Indians have been making some attempts as if they intend to trouble Cumberland this year. They killed a man about a month ago that was out hunting between Cumberland and the Tennessee, and about the same time they came upon some men that were up Cumberland River surveying, about forty miles from here, and wounded four of them badly, but I think they will get over it, and last Monday night they came on a little station on Big Barren river and broke it up, some of them were killed, but as yet, no certain account how many; they have also taken three parcels of horses this spring, two from about Bledsow's Lick and one parcel from the south side of the river, and three or four days ago two Chickeymogey Indians came to our town, and they say they are Creek Indians that do us the damage, and they say that they are friendly and want to be so, but it is doubted that they are not. There have been some Chickasaw and Choctaw Indians here that declare to be in our favor and offer their assistance against the Creeks. You wrote me to know whether horses would purchase land; they do deal for horses, but good saddle horses will sell best and are in most demand. Your mare can never be found since we came here, and I fear that some accident has come to her. We found your young horse and he is with our creatures. Your cattle thrive very well since we came here. minister is come and settled, and we have the meeting house about four miles from us, and it will be but three miles from your land, and wish that you and your family were here, if there would not be too much danger on the road, but you will have a further account after awhile. I have purchased 228 acres acres of land adjoining your land and my own, and intended to have been on Harper's river soon, but it is not safe. I have been speaking with Colonel Robertson there, and he offers me the first rate land there at half a dollar per acre, and if I like the land, I will purchase one thousand acres of him. We have a very comfortable neighborhood of people as ever we lived in, and I think the best, and it is thick settled here. We have had all our children that are at home at school this winter. As the bearer is just waiting, I shall conclude, with our best respects to you and your family, we remain your loving father and mother whilst--- Samuel and Jean Shannon April 10,1786 n.b. Remember our kind love to Brother and Sister Crowe and all the family. To Mr. Thomas Shannon Living in Montgomery County, Walker's Creek Forwarded by John White
Hi Natalie, My cost to copy & mail the chart is total of $2. Yours is in the mail. You can handle it as you like. Mike
Russ, Where can I find copies of John Shannon letter/ Any others? Do others know about Dexel's two books, the white one & the green one? Mike
Hello Phil, You can email me at [email protected] The charts start with Thomas & Eigness, and work forward to the present generations. L.A.Busby was trying to get them FULLY worked up when he died, so there isn't the 150 pages of data & 150 pages of charts, but what is there is good. My cost to copy $1, & to mail is another $1. Mike
