    1. [SHANNON-L] Malcolm Shannon's paper
    2. Hi All, I have a lot of material on various lines that I'm going to start putting into roots web as I can. much of it will be from past years, but time should not influence it. So am going to start with a paper sent to me by Malcolm Shannon of Corona del Mar, Calif.; These Passing Years Of the early Shannons in Arkansas I will try to follow the life of Isaac Shannon and his descendants, as he was my Gr-Grandfather. According to Miss Clara B. Eno's "History of Crawford County" Isaac Shannon was a land owner and on the tax list as early as 1821. Other settlers coming later were the Paynes and the Blacks who settled in Lee's Creek township. Hugh Shannon and a few more families moved on into Washington County in 1826. Not much information is to be had because so much was lost when the courthouse at Van Buren was burned during the Civil War. Isaac married Jamima Black and to them four children were born, all in Crawford County, as far as I know: Margaret Jane b. 1827 d.1897 m. Ammon Payne James Huston b. 1/12/1829 d. 8/1/1864 m. 9/4/1851 to Lucinda Edna Edmiston William H.(grandfather) b. 3/1835 d.1/26/1878 m. 9/15/1859 Sarah E. Drake by Rev. N. Givens John L. b. 8/11/1837 d. 8/7/1912 m. 8/21/1860 Mary Joyce Records show that Isaac Shannon and family moved to Washington County, around 1845 and settled in the Vineyard area near Evansville. ( will continue Later)

    2. In a message dated 01/04/2000, [email protected] writes: << How often does something like this happen, I wonder? >> Hi Mike.............more & more with the wonderful communication of the net. I now have 2 fingers crossed (always had 1) that someone will be looking for a long lost James SHANNON who married a Margaret GRIMLIER in the Mississippi Territory, then promply joined the MS Territory Militia to serve in the War of 1812. One of these days, someone is gonna connect to them......I JUST KNOW IT! ! ! LOL Joyce

    1. [SHANNON-L] Fort Smith Shannons
    2. Hi Kathy, Long ago, Louise Dedman told me that all Shannon s that were in Arkansas in the early 1800's were related. A note of interest, my Gr-Grandfather's brother Wm. Henry Shannon had been arrested & thrown in jail under Judge Isaac Parker's court. He is descended from Pegleg George Shannon. Wm. Henry was acquitted when it was established that it was self defense. He was mortally wounded in battle at Chickmauga. Ft. Smith is near Van Buren, and south of Washington co. Who was your Gr-Grandfather? Please realize that the Shannons ALL used the same set of names for their children. It makes it difficult to pin down exactly which one you're talking about, and is easy to get them mixed up. Mike

    1. [SHANNON-L] La. Shannons (Mo.-La)
    2. Hi Helen, I WISH I were more current on this, but I do recall that there was a family a David's I think, where the head of the family died in La., and the wife moved up to Missouri to be with her family, and other Shannon kin that was there, so there were some of that family born in La. This is all I can remember, if I find this info, will send it to you. Mike

    1. [SHANNON-L] Shannon letters & photos
    2. Good Morning Lisa, Thanks for the reply.First, I am the Michael Shannon who transcribed the letters and put together the book,"Letters From Home". Second, apparently, I am the one who sent the material to your aunt. Third, we're cousins! How about them apples? My side of the family is your side of the family! Who was the aunt that I sent the data to? Where did you find the book of letters? It has been 15-20 yrs since I have been active with my research. The book I transcribed when I had surgery on my back. I had no excuse not to do it when I was at home for 2 months. This was in July of 1993. The photos in the book are probably the only ones I have that you would be interested in. I do have more, but they are strictly Col. Shannon & his family. Let me hear from you. Your cousin, Mike ps, How often does something like this happen, I wonder?

    2. WHAT A GREAT IDEA.......if each of us would post marriages we might have here at home, it will not only be in the archives, but just might help one of our list members. I have several Mississippi county marriages & will pull the SHANNONs from them. Might be a good idea to post the subject line this way: marriages Claiborne co MS or marriages Jefferson co MS that way, anyone not interested in that county could just delete that one. Thanks for coming up with a good idea, Joyce

It was read to Allen Cox 2/16/78, and later a transcript was mailed to me probably in 1984. Rebecca Ann Delaney Rebecca Ann Delaney, born to Nancy and Joseph Delaney, married Colonel Laramore 7/1/1849 in Washington Co.,Ark. They were listed in the 1850 census there with his mother, Anna(Shannon) DePriest. Colonel's father, Samuel Laramore, had died in Washington Co., before 1830. Colonel was born in 1826 in Crawford or Washington County, Ark, per their family bible. Rebecca was born 9/17/1826. She died 12/24/1904. She and Colonel were buried in the Laramore Cemetery south of Cleburne, Texas at an area formerly called Sand Flat. Anna DePriest was also buried there. As a matter of interest, Anna is listed in the 1860 census in James Delaney's houshold. Colonel Laramore and his mother and family, with Rebecca's brother, James Delaney, the Billingsleys and Shannons removed to Johnson County, Texas, arriving 12/26/1854. All the above from Allen Cox (in Ft. Worth, Tx., 1984)

Hi Kevin, What had intrigued me was the fact that you were researching Shannons and had an e-maik address of "scouts".As it happens, my Great Grandfather Shannon had the Shannon's Scouts in the Civil War. I thought there might be a connection there, but I guess not. My line descends from Thomas & Eigness, to Samuel & Jean, to Joseph & Mary, and then to Granville & Unity, on to Col. Alexander May & Clara Viola Scott Shannon, to my Grandfather, James Alfred Shannon, and thence to his son James Jr. and then to myself, so I guess there is no connection Michael Shannon
