    3. Jimmy Kerr, I am interested in any new Shannon book too. Please post the details. Thanks, Carolyn Shannon Genzel Rt. 2 Box 240-A5 Cooper, TX 75432 I invite you to visit my web pages at: http://www2.1starnet.com/cgenzel http://www2.1starnet.com/cgenzel/genindex.htm http://www2.1starnet.com/cgenzel/shannon.htm Don't forget the first rule of genealogy.... everything should be backed by primary documentation.... Most of my information in these reports have been compiled from documented sources while some small portions are from collections of personal histories told from memory and family tradition with little documentation, and should always be taken as such. If anyone finds incorrect information please notify me so that it may be corrected. 1. Re: [SHANNON-L] [email protected]: Wm. Henry Shannon
    2. Mary L. Miller
    3. That would be William Henry Hardwick; his mother was a Shannon. He served in Co. D., lst Battalion, Kentucky Mounted Rifles first year; then went to Tennessee and served about a year in Co. B, Tennessee Cavalry (Biffle's); then about a year in Co. A, 45 Regt. Virginia Infantry; fourth year he spent in prisoner of war camp, Camp Morton, Indiana. His Virginia unit was captured at Piedmont, Va. He was exchanged at Point Lookout, MD at end of the war. 2. Mary, That's really interesting. I hope someone was interested enough to take notes or listen to him or his descendant tell the story. Much to my regret, I wasn't that interested in what my grandfather tried to tell me. It wasn't until it was too late that I realized what was there, and what I lost. Mike

    2. Mary L. Miller
    3. Dear Margaret; That would be great! I don't know if I told you, but this Margaret died very young. She married Jesse Hardwick on Nov. 13, 1839, gave birth to my great-grandfather, William Henry, on May 20, 1841, and she died July 14, 1843. Needless to say, Jesse remarried and had a large family, but I've always felt sorry for this Margaret Shannon and wanted to know about her family. It doesn't say anywhere, but I imagine her death at such a young age had something to do with another pregnancy--they seemed to have kids every two years. My great-grandfather was quite a character and stayed very close with his half-brothers and sisters in later life. He was in the Civil War, Confederate Cavalry, and I have some of his letters. I'd really like to find his mother's family. Thanks, Mary [email protected] wrote: > > There has to be a connection here with John B. 2. Joyce, As you know, Tommie and I are cousins. It was she & Louise Dedman who took me under their wings and got me well started in my genealogy. Whatever you have on the Shannons & Billingslys, I would probably be interested in too. Also, I have the Billingsley Book as well as WCHS's The Billingsleys and The Garvans, and would be happy to share any of it needed by others. Mike

    1. [SHANNON-L] Samuel Shannon
    2. Mary L. Miller
    3. This seems to be a popular name. My Samuel Shannon had a daughter named Margaret Shannon who married Jesse Hardwick in Nicholas County, Kentucky on November 13, 1839. I've found several Samuel Shannons in the general area; one in Woodford County and one in Nicholas, but the one in Nicholas was a Presbyterian minister with a lot of land, and somehow I don't think that is the correct one. Does anyone know anything about this Samuel Shannon or his daughter, Margaret? Much obliged. Mary

    1. [SHANNON-L] Isaac Shannon: descendants letter
    2. August 24, 1973 Dear Michael, You wrote such a nice informative letter. Your information is absolutely correct in every detail. The infant Samuel is my uncle. The two families were together and when the war was over my grandfather went home to them. The date of my grandfather's letter is June 18,1865. The troops were returning home. This is a few years earlier than your letter, I think, tho it is the same situation. In our telephone conversation you mentioned a woman's name(I don't remember her name) who had talked and also had seen people who knew about Isaac. I wish you would put that in writing, for I did not get all of it in my mind. I believe the pieces are beginning to fall into place. Whatever I can do, I'll try to help. My Best Regards, Ruth Lincoln Ark April 232,1973 Dear Michael Shannon I appreciate hearing from you and your effort in tracing the Shannon History. I am writing my brother in Calif.,he is working on the same thing you are and I believe he will have some up to date information. When I hear from him, I will try to get some information together and write to you. I am working on Hugh Shannon. I have been trying to find the missing link from 1775 in Lexington,Ky., and 1821 in Ark. I should hear something from my brother right away. Let's keep in touch. Ruth Shannon King Lincoln Ark Sept 12,1973 Dear Mike, As I check through my papers, I am finding some interesting items. This one in particular; "Alexander Buchanan married Lavinia Shannon, daughter of Joseph Shannon". I have checked one side of this chart, but can't make any headway begining with Samuel. Do you have any dates here? I don't know much about my ancestors. Isaac left Sherman to go to Denton County, to visit a Wm Shannon, also Mr Joyce. Mary's father visited Isaac on his way west, probably Colorado. I feel that he would know something to leave to posterity. This letter doesn't make much headway, but I am working on this thing. I feel I am getting near Isaac, and maybe the answer to the question we need. Best Wishes, Ruth King Thomas Shannon m. Agnes Reid Children: John m. Sarah Reid & had; John Jr., Capt. 1. [SHANNON-L] Isaac Shannon; descendants' letters
    2. Hi All, Lately I've taken down a big box of old letters from when I had pursued my genealogy. I've sorted & filed those of my Shannon cousins from 20 years ago, and thought some might be helpful to others. Mind you, this is pursuit of fact, not necessarily fact, but the pursuit of it. Mike June 15,1973 Dear Mr. Shannon, I want to apologize for the delay in answering your letter, also I want to thank you for sending me your chart. As yet I don't have a chart that is traceable. My interest in Hugh (Shannon) was to try to determine if he was my gr-gr-grandfather, but as you say, I can't prove it. I have heard that Alexander & Granville are brothers and sons of Hugh. Do you think this correct? Your chart doesn't show that it is. I am returning your chart.* You have done a lot of work on it. My trouble is, I don't have much time to search for information. I want to keep in touch. I have about given up on the theory that these lines connect. My beginning chart is just like yours-Thomas and Agnes Reid I will try to help in this but feel rather helpless. Sincerely Ruth Shannon King *The chart is the one L.A.Busby put together with collabaration of others & sent to those interested. It is the one I've sent to those who wanted it, at cost. Wednesday Aug 28 1973 Michael Shannon Houston,Texas Dear Sir, In regard to your letter of Aug 12, I am certainly glad to hear from you, as it seems that I have come to a dead end on my research of Isaac Shannon. I am at Santa Cruz,Cal.,right now, your letter was forwarded on to me, but I will be back at home next week and will send you the information that I have. Thank you very much for writing. Regards, Malcolm J. Shannon- August 15,1973 Dear Michael, I did not realize a month had passed since I received your letter. How glad I was to hear from you, to talk person to person with you and to learn you already had the information you wanted. I have been working on the premise that I have a great great grandfather. My great grandfather was buried in Texas. At the close of the Civil War, my grandfather William went to the home of his father, Isaac near Sherman. While William was there, Isaac and Jamima went to Denton County, to see a Wm.Shannon. Isaac was in very poor health. He probably died there, since we didn't hear anymore from him. His wife is buried here. We have checked records in Sherman, but did not find any Shannons. We do not know who this William Shannon was that they went to see. If you have the opportunity to examine any records from Denton Co., you might find something that would help. Best Wishes, Ruth S. King Isaac Shannon My Great grandfather Jamima Children James William (my grandfather) m. Sarah Drake & had Samuel,Lillie Ella & Thomas (my father) had;Ruth, William,John,Wesley, Homer, Malcolm Mary m. John Joya I do not know anything about my great grandfather's family. He married a Black and the Black family lived in this western part of the state, Van Buren, Lee's Creek, possiobly Evansville. It may be we could find some microfilm about the Blacks. I think when we solve this problem the rest of the tracing will be easy. I can go way out on a limb to get the information about this list. I have most of it. I intended to get this in a chart, but since you have it, I will wait. R.K.
