Thank you. Guess I need to go through every one. Went through many and kind of gave up. Will get back to them. Charles, can you put in the birth year on each so we can see if they connect timewise? Thanks. Hi, Shannon researchers --- The given name of the widow of the Thomas Shannon who died in Lancaster Co, PA in 1737 was Agness, not Eigness. I have a photocopy of the actual handwritten will, and it is easy to see why some may interpret the name to be Eigness, but it is clearly Agness. (Actually, it is written Agnefs, with an "F" being used as the first of the double "S" in the spelling.) I will be happy to send you a photocopy of this handwritten will, and let you judge for yourself, if anyone is curious about this. E-mail me at petehamilton@hotmail.com and send me your snail mail address. I am interested in this family because some have claimed that Anna Shannon, the underaged daughter of Thomas and Agness Shannon, was the Anne Shannon who married William Ewing. There are also some who claim that Thomas Shannon, brother of Anna Shannon (and hence son of Thomas and Agness Shannon) is the father of Susannah Shannon, who married Andrew Ewing (son of the same William Ewing). I believe both of these assumptions are incorrect, but I do believe that "my" Shannon ancestors (Anne Shannon Ewing and Susannah Shannon Ewing) are most likely related to the Thomas and Agness Shannon family. One day I hope to be able to establish the connection. Pete Hamilton (5-great grandson of William Ewing, 4-great grandson of Andrew Ewing and Susannah Shannon) _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
Bobbie, The Dedman letters werew written to me years ago by Louise Dedman when I first started my research. They chart out our family tree along with how she researched and proved the varoius lines. They are an excellent source for anyone researching the Shannon lines that tie to Thomas & Eigness. I highly reccomend them to all. Mike Shannon
Hello, Did your John Shannon, b.ca 1718 have a brother, Thomas? That would be the right birth time for our Thomas. Would you know anything about the brother, Thomas, if there was one? Wow, I did not realize there were brothers. That is a help. If you know anything about the brothers, when they came, where they settled and anything about their families, I would appreciate these clues to start looking that way. Appreciate your help. Hello, the name of the book is Peter Robinson's Settlers, 1823-1825, written by a man by the name of Carol Bennett. There's 195 pages, with an index. All of the families first & last names, where they came from, and on what ship. It gives background and tells about the settlers. My husband & I went to Peterborough, Ontario several times in the last 4 years. Would go more often if it weren't for the horrendous traffic going through Toronto, Ca. UGH. We paid $20.00 for the book, which is well worth the price. I can do a lookup if you like. Dorothy
Hi Louise, Not that I know of. Sorry. There is a chart that John Peeling worked up though, in the window at the top of your screen, put in google.com, then click go. In the window that comes up type in Joseph Shannon and click on I feel lucky. This will give you a lineage chart from 1500's to present. Perhaps you can find yours in there. Send me your e-mail address to pdd101940@aol.com and I'll see if I can give you some more and some contacts. Mike
Mike, Did any of these John Shannons come to Penn by was of Racine Wisconson in 1800's? Any help appreciated. Hello, anyone out there with a John Shannon, b.1754/5, Md. He lived in Washington Co. Md. He served in the Am. Rev. War, and he m. Jane, d/o Alexander Dunlap & Jane Jack, Mercersburg/Chambersburg, Pa. They raised 10 children. Dorothy Cote
I have a John Shannon b ca 1718 Lancaster,Pa. m Sarah Reid. John's fa was Thomas Shannon,Mo.Eigness Shannon.
Bobbie, I meant to add to my previous email that Agness Nancy Shannon m. William McCune/McQuown, I understand. Dottie
Hello, do any of the Agnes - Eigness Shannon descendants know of a Thomas Shannon born about 1715-25? I am positive our Thomas came from your line, all the names are the same and he lives close. He left home and came to Adams/York Co. PA and made a patent for land from William Penn. We have the land records from York/Adams Co. PA, first in 1740 where he applied for the patent, then in 1762 or 3, where the fighting between Maryland and PA for the same land was settled, and at that point the and transaction was finished. so the land belonged to both Maryland and PA at the same time from 1740-1760. The king had given overlapping grants to Penn and Lord Baltimore. Thomas's land was just outside the Manor of the Masque, and he is listed in there. We went to Gettysburg looking for records and found and went to his land sw of Gettysburg, on the Toms River in Fairfield, PA Then the land went to his son, Joseph in 1797 or 1798 at his death. I have his will, of 1797 in York Co. PA. At that time of his death. Thomas about 80, and his wife, Mary, were living with Joseph on the original land, a son, Samuel got a few pennies, probably provided for earlier, and a daughter, Mary received the adjacent "land and home on which she and her husband, Henry Cowley were now living." There is a Patrick and an Alexander in the same county in the 1790 census. I have also found him in several tax or inhabitant lists from middle to ending 1700s. I would think there would be more children that had already received inheritances, and possibly this could be a second wife, with these kids being a second younger group than the first marriage would have been. It seems that not many of these Irish folks only had 3 children in all their married lives. I do wish I could give you more info. I am also looking for Henry Cooley parents. There was a John Cooley living in 1779 in Adams/York Co. as well as Thomas Shannon. He was single and about 20 and on his own, I presume. Joseph Shannon was not listed so he probably lived with his father at that time. I had thought that Henry might be the son of John Cooley of Kent Co. MD as that would fit time wise, but I cannot prove it, nor can I prove that the same John from MD moved to PA. Please, dear Shannon possible cousins, help us figure out where our Thomas belongs. Any help and advice is very, very much appreciated. Thank you, Bobbie Reihsen in Missouri _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com > > > _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
Bobby, There is this, John>John Jr>Robt had 4 sons who came to Penn., one of which married Eigness. Your Thomas could well be a son of one of the other four. Mike
