    3. You are doing so well, can hardly believe your age. You are young in spirit and enterprise and that is what counts. I am 65 and just now, my friends are finally getting into the internet emailing, tho they do not do research. I checked the site and found hundreds of Shannons and found 16 Thomas Shannons, but none born about 1720-25. Mine made a patent to buy land from the Penn family in 1740 near Gettysburg. I presume he must have been at least 16 at the time, so his birth would have been between 1715 to 1725 and he would have been very young to have enough money to buy 300 acres. He died in 1797 in York Co. PA according to his will. He lived there all those years according to tax and inhabitant lists. So I don't know who he is or his parents or where he was born. So frustrating, but thanks for helping anyway. 1. Re: [SHANNON-L] Shannon Lineage
    2. Bobbie, No, I've never found a ship's list or passenger list showing our Shannons arriving. I have Thomas, son of Thomas who m. Eigness, going down onto Rockfish River(this is now in Nelson Co.,Va.) with Samuel &Jean Reid Shannon. He died there unwed. John, son of Thoomas & Eigness, had a son, Thomas who m. Polly Reid. John also had a son George m. Ann Reid and had Thomas who m.Elizabeth Spear Now my ancestor was Samuel, a brother to the above John. He had Capt. Thomas who m.Agnes Crow and had Thomas Jr. who m. Juliet Allen(whose descendants still live at "Poplar Hill" Va. My Samuel had George who m. Mary Mcknight and had Thomas G. Moving ahead a generation we have my Samuel's son Joseph who m. Mary Billingsly.Their son Alexander (for whom my Gr-Grandfather was named) had a son Thomas who m Cynthia Denton. This is getting into the 1800's , so no point in going further as it is too late to be the Thomas you're looking for. Gerald Busby's grandfather and some others, myself included, were putting together a chart on all this. He died before it could be completed. I do have some17 pages of it I can send to you for $2 cost to print and mail, if you want. Just send me your address. Mike

    2. Bobbie, I'm not familiar with an alphabetized list. Are you referring to the list on google? if so, that was done by John Peeling Jr. As I said, there are several who've done this. They start with the common denominator(John Shannon Sr, of Scotland) and work the line down into their connection and then to the present generations. Let me give you a few more to look at: Gerald Busby http:www.familytreemaker.com/users/b/u/s/Gerald-l-busby John Peeling Jr http://genforum.familytreemaker.com/shannon/messages/91.html+ Terry McLean http://home.earthlink.net/~tmclean/PickensDBndx/dat18.htm Sheila Lawson http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/5600/ Mike

    2. Bobbie, I should have noted, Robt. had four sons who migrated from N.Ireland. They all settled in Pnn., and of course each family used the same set of names. If that were not bad enough, they married cousins too! Mike

    1. Re: [SHANNON-L] John Shannon
    2. HI, Yes, Louise Dedman warned me about that early on.You have to use vital statistics to keep them apart. Our line from Thomas'(the one who m. Eigness) great grandfather to present has been documented by at least six people and is available on line for the rest of us. Mine goes like this; John in Scotland >John Jr. b. in Scotland>Robt b. N. Ireland>Thomas who m. Eigness>Samuel who m. Jean Reid> Joseph who m. Mary Billingsly>Granville who m. Unity Williams>Alexander who m. Clara Viola Scott>James Alfred who m.Dana Sproule>James Alfred Jr who m.Gloria Gusman>Michael Shannon. Mike ps The Louise Dedman letters are on line. These were written to me years ago, and Louise shows who is connected to who, and gives her proofs for each. They are long letters with strictly data and proofs. M.S.

    3. Sean, I wish I knew more about our Thomas. Only know the land and tax rec. and his three children in his will. 2. Beimer, The Thomas Shannon you refer to was a brother of John and Samuel. Samuel was my Gr-Gr-Gr-Great Grandfather. When Samuel Shannon came of age, he took his inheirtance and moved south to Rockfish River in Va. Thomas went with him and died there in 1772, single. Samuel moved on down into what is now Giles Ca.,Va. His first son he named for his father and brother. When the rest of the family moved west into Tnn., Capt. Thomas Shannon stayed at Poplar Hill,Va. 3. Hi Kelly, My Robert was born about 1795 in County Cork (or Down??) and died Dec 8, 1861 in Storrington Township, Ontario (Canada West in the good old days). I think Robert was married twice - first to ? Aldridge and then to Margaret Bates. His son William was born Jan. 17, 1817 in Ireland and died in Storrington Township on Nov. 14, 1901. William married Ellenor McNeely, born Apr. 5, 1842 in Storrington Township. Her parents were John McNeely, b. abt. 1798 in County Armagh, Ireland, and Ellenor Mathison, b. abt 1789 in County Down. A second family of Shannons also came to the area about the same time and they also have Roberts and Williams (and Johns and Thomases). Some think the families were cousins but at this point we are all stuck.
