    1. [SHANNON] Re: Peter SHANNON died 1916 WW1
    2. Peter was from new Ross Wexford, came to Australia as a shearer. Went to Boer War and also WW1 he died 19 July 1916, Battle of Fromelles and was missing until this past year. He was recorded by the Germans as one of the 250 they buried - found in a mass grave in 2008 and after a long search for a Shannon male who carried the same DNA, was identified this past year and commemorated in the ceremony 19 July at the new Pheasants wood cemetery where he now has a grave stone with his details. Thanks to all the Shannons who helped. 3. Apparently, Marion......copies are no longer available of the Peg-Leg booklet. But I will put you down for a scanned copy I am doing. By the way, I am putting the pages into a folder. IF....if you cannot receive a folder, please let me know and I will send a few pages at a time to you. Remember, it's 51pages. 1. [SHANNON] Peter SHANNON died at Fromelles WW!
    2. Hi All For all who helped with our search for Peter - , who was missing for 100 years on the battlefield, he has now been found, thanks to a wonderful Shannon from Dublin, who donated DNA Peter now has his own gravestone at the Pheasant Wood Military Cemetery at Fromelles which was created for the 250 Aussie soldiers who were found in a mass grave in 2008, so if any Shannons are visiting that area, please go by this cemetery. (I have a photo of the unveiling on 19 July this year, if anyone is interested.) We found the donor by writing an article in the paper and he came forward and although we couldn’t ping the relationship via the known family tree, , the DNA was able to report it was back at great grandfather era. Thanks again for your support Cheers Marg O'Leary, vice president, Fromelles Association of Australia. -----Original Message----- From: Joyce via SHANNON <shannon@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, 8 August 2019 11:54 PM To: shannon@rootsweb.com Cc: Joyce <jsbridg@aol.com> Subject: [SHANNON] Re: George F. There was a Shannon decent on the trip. He was a young guy and didn’t have too much info to provide about the Shannon line. I think he had an older relative with him but we weren’t able to speak with him. Their interest was the trip. It was interesting to see how they dressed back then and what their boat looked like.
