Looking for contacts John CALLAGHAN baptised in St.Colman's Parish Church, Cobh, Cork, (Parents John Callaghan and Mary ?) November 1825 name anglisized to CALLAHAN when he joined the Royal Navy in Plymouth,Devonport in 1845. His brother William was also at Plymouth at that time and a seaman. John was married in Roman Catholic church of Aghada,Cork in 1854, to Catherine GUNN. William was also married there in 1848 to Ann GUNN. Witness at both weddings was DENIS MCGRATH, who married Johanna GUNN also in 1848. I think it is possible that this was a second marriage and Johanna was originally a CALLAGHAN (not proved). John, wife and children Catherine Mary & John were all on the 1861 Census for Poplar,London. 1863 Ann was born and in 1867 my Grandfather William all at the same address. I have no record of them after that until 1892 so have a gap of 25 years. So did they go back to Ireland or the U.S.A.? Regards marycal@wanadoo.es
