I am searching for family roots and remaining Irish relatives. My great grandfather Joseph Smith was born in Co Tyrone, March 28, 1810 or possibly 1811. He was Protestant. I do not know his parents' names but I believe he had brothers James and William and quite likely others. About1835 he married Ellenor (Ellen) Harten who came from Scotland. November 3, 1836, they had a son, James. Joseph MAY have been an Orangeman. In early 1840 Joseph, Ellenor and James (possibly with some other members of the family) emigrated from Co Cork to Quebec. On board the ship on which they sailed, a daughter was born to Ellenor on April 29, 1840. They arrived in Quebec on or about May 24, 1840. Joseph found work the day they arrived but in a very short time was injured and had to be hospitalized. When he returned home he found his wife grievously ill. She died June 24, 1840, and the baby died 3 weeks later. Joseph took his small son and moved on to Ontario where he met and married Aurilla Tenney. They had a large family and later immigrated to Iosco Co, MI, where both died.
