Arthur Dempsay was born in Ireland Apr. 27, 1812. He had studied for the priesthood but was never ordained. He married Mary Smith (1812-1898). They went to Scotland where he studied to be a doctor. From there they came to Perry Co. where he became the 22nd licensed doctor in the state of Illinois. Don't know what year he went to Scotland but came to Illinois around mid 1800's.
