Daniel Mullen, the son of John Mullen and Mary (Murphy) Mullen left County Cork, Ireland about 1848 with his young family. He was thirty-four years old, his wife Mary (McCarthy) Mullen was twenty-nine and son, Charles, was just an infant. The family lived in England while waiting to emigrate to the United States. In 1852, the family was living in Pennsylvania where son, John was born. Five years later, they were living in Iowa as daughter, Annie was born there 11 Jan 1856. (Anne was born in Iowa according to Census records and also in the History of Wright County, however, her death certificate #25210 date of death 1 April 1948 lists her birthplace as St. Paul, MN). By 1860, the family had settled in Buffalo, Wright County, Minnesota.
