Just to add to the subject on citizenship. I migrated from Dublin in 1954, when I lived in the UK for two years I was subjected to call for National Services in the Military. I joined the Royal Signal Corp, was sent to Catterick and there on our arrival they had rows of clerks waiting to fill out the necessary papers for us, on one of my forms they put my Nationality as British/Irish, I refused to sign the paper, then all hell broke loose. Two days later I was interview by an officer who was I believe was from the legal branch, he informed me, the entry was correct, people from Scotland would be British/ Scottish or British/Welsh ect. and my paper had nothing to do with being English, he also told me to insist on an Irish passport, as the Republic of Ireland at that time were not involved with Nato.
