Tipperary. Prior to emigrating to Boston. Massachusetts in 1887 with his wife, Bridget PURCELL CONWAY, and four of their daughters, he had worked at Curraghmore, Portlaw, Co. Waterford. Bridget PURCELL CONWAY died in 1888, and on January 4, 1890 Thomas CONWAY, in an attempt to locate his brothers and sister, placed the following message in the "Boston Pilot 'Missing Friends' " column: "Information wanted of Patrick - William - David and Kate CONWAY - born in Ballylooby, Co. Tipperary. Last heard of in 1864 - were in Blackberry Station, Ill. Their only brother Thomas [CONWAY] is in East Boston - 381 Sumner St. - and will be glad to learn of their whereabouts." {Thanks to a lovely lady in Australia for that information.] Blackberry Station, Ill. is now known as Elburn, Illinois. With the assistance of two lovely Iowa ladies, I now know that Thomas CONWAY ended up in Mitchell Co., Iowa where he married his second wife, the widow Anna McTigue. I had always been told that widower Thomas CONWAY abt. 1890 had left Massachusetts for Bailey Grove, Iowa -- where two of his brothers had settled -- married a farmer's widow, and lost contact with his children who remained in Massachusetts. I believe that I have located David & William CONWAY in Kane County, Illinois. I haven't yet located Kate CONWAY or Patrick CONWAY. [Would "Kate" be a nickname for Catherine?] By the end of April I hope to have more information from a further search by the Waterford Heritage Service. Thomas' parents were John CONWAY and Mary CASEY. Thomas & Bridget's children were: Alice 1861-1949 [my grandmother] William 1863 John 1864 Josephine 1864 Mary 1868 Annie 1868-1969 Brigid 1870-1935 Any long-lost relatives out there?
