Thank you for the replies regarding Abby vs. Alice. I had thought they were 2 different people, but wanted to make sure. They are definitely from Leitrim per Abby's papers. My best guess is she was named for Fenagh Abbey, located close to where she was born. None of her 50 years of records in the US list her name as anything but Abby (Abbie or Abbey).
