Emmetsburg Democrat Emmetsburg, Palo Alto, Iowa March 21, 1935 Mrs. Myles McNally Mrs. Myles McNally, one of the well known aged ladies of Emmetsburg, passed away Thursday of last week. The funeral was held Saturday morning at nine o'clock. Services were conducted in the Assumption church, the pastor, Very Rev. J.T. Finnegan officiating. Interment was in St. John's cemetery. The pall bearers were nephews of the deceased. They were Wm. McNally; Robert McNally, Paul Kerber, Patrick Doerning, Ervin Joynt and Chas. Kane. Marie Kane was born at Roscommon, Ireland, September 8th, 1844. Hence she was 90 years old at the time of her passing. When four years old she came with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Martin Kane, to the United States. They located in Oconomowoc, [Wisconsin], January 27, 1868. Mr. and Mrs. McNally moved to Iowa in May 1871 locating on a farm in Emmetsburg township. In 1899 they retired and moved to the city. Mr. and Mrs. McNally celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in January 1918. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. McNally, three of whom have preceded their mother in death. Mr. McNally passed away January 16, 1929. Surviving are the four daughters-Mrs. M.M. Maher of Hastings, Nebr., Mrs. Larry Murphy of Bonesteel, S.D., Mrs. Dick McNally of Emmetsburg and Mrs. Art Beaudry of St. Cloud, Minn. -and the son, W.T. McNally of this city. A brother, Martin B. Kane, resides at Ayrshire. The passing of Mrs. McNally is to be regretted by the people of this community. She lived to a ripe old age and she was thoroughly acquainted with the early life and the struggles of the pioneers who developed our county from its raw prairies to its presently highly cultivated state. She prided herself in that she likewise endured many of the hardships of pioneer days and that she also was often called upon to make many sacrifices for the common good. As a mother she was kind and indulgent and she went without many of the necessities in order to build with her husband a comfortable estate that her family might never know the meaning of want. She was a kind and obliging neighbor and her acts of generosity were many. She was a faithful member of her church and she lived up to its Christian teachings. During her declining years she was comforted in the thought that she had lived a good life and that she had merited the love and solicitious care of her fond son and daughters as she became more dependent upon them. They, of course, knew her for her real worth. To them her passing is a severe blow.
