    3. Thank you everyone for responding with so many good definitions. for "furnas". Since so many words and names are abbreviated in Irish records, the first of the following seems to fit in with the medieval record that I was reading. Several people also suggested #1. Go raibh maith (thank you) for all your excellent ideas. 1. It is short for furnishings. That is, the medieval equivalent of saddle and harness. Those items were very expensive in those days. 2. My Latin Dictionary gives "fornus" and "furnus" as meaning "oven". The quotes could be because they knew they were using a Latin term. Slan go foill, Margaret (Mairead)
