Looking for info on John SHIELDS born c. 1825 and brother Laurence SHIELDS born c. 1832, (where?) in Ireland. Both emigrated to the US about 1848 (arriving in Baltimore?) and settled in Washington DC where they worked as stonecutters. They lived on 13th St in DC. There may have been other SHIELDS siblings. John SHIELDS married Catherine KELLY, (born c. 1825 in Co. Louth. ) in DC in June 1850. She was daughter of Peter KELLY (b 1797) and had a brother Nicholas KELLY born c. 1822. John died 1859. Laurence SHIELDS m. Harriet BARRETT in June 1860 in DC. He may have been married before. Laurence died 1863. Peter KELLY may be the Peter Kelly who was born in the RC parish of Togher in Co Louth, son of Nicholas Kelly and Catherine Conwell. He died in WashDC in 1864. Of course I'd love to hear frm anyone researching the same family. Janet C-S
