Have just read somewhere that women were commonly called by their middle name not first name. Therefore when married, their maiden name would be used as their middle name with married name last. Always been that way here. ANN

Interesting, my 2G Grandmother was Abigail Gertrude and was called Gertrude. Her sister was Sarah Rebecca, known as Rebecca. Their brother was William Emmett, called Emmett. Another brother was Charles Ferren, for awhile he was called Fern.
