I would like to find information about my great grandmother who came to New York from County Antrim in 1880 when she was 17 years old. Matilda's parents were Charles Dobbin and Mary Forbes. The only appropriate Charles Dobbin living in the area in 1862 per Griffith's Valuation lived in Cranfield in the Parish of Cranfield. I have not yet been able to locate birth records for her or her siblings and hoped I could learn something about her place of birth from a ships manifest if one could be located. Does anyone have access to ships records for a reasonable fee? She was; Matilda Jane Dobbin(s) born in County Antrim reportedly on 10 July 1862 of parents, Charles Dobbin and Mary Forbes Dobbin. Matilda came to America in 1880 and a Bible we have is inscribed; Matilda Jane Dobbin Cranfield Staffordstown. S.S. October 8th, 1880 I have learned from the registrar of births in Cranfield that the reference above to Staffordstown S.S. probably refers to the Staffordstown Sunday School which was attached to the Duneane Presbyterian Church in Randalstown, County Antrim. The Church of LDS does not seem to have filmed the records of this church and my letter to the minister remains unanswered. I have been told that PRONI has most of these old school records. Can anyone out there do lookups at PRONI for a reasonable fee? Please contact me. If we assume this Bible was given to Matilda as she left Ireland then she must have resided in Cranfield at that time and would have sailed from the nearest port, probably on October 8th or very soon thereafter. Matilda came to New York to live with her aunt's family, Martha Forbes Jones (b. @1840), James Jones (b. @ 1837) and Sarah J.Jones (b. 22 jul 1864). The Jones family came from County Antrim between 1868 and 1869 based on information they gave on the 1875 census here. If either family was located on a ship's manifest it may have additional information that would help me in my family search. Any help or suggestions on how to locate this information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help. JIM
