Here is an easy way to remember which is correct. Frances- e is for her Francis- i is for him Another Frances Retired teacher

Not always Frances. My husband's Irish grandmother was Francis - we have her signature on her marriage certificate (and she was quite literate). The officiating minister had filled in the document as Frances, though. Regards, Margery in Australia
