The "Free State" is the name given to what is now the republic of Ireland, 26 of the 32 counties of Ireland. The remaining 6 counties comprise Northern Ireland. The Six Counties are Antrim, Armagh, Derry, Down, Fermanagh, and Tyrone. All others are in the Republic. Three counties of what is the historic province of Ulster are in the Republic: that is, Cavan, Donegal, and Monaghan. Janet C-S
