Hello List from NZ, My ancestor was John MORIARTY from Coom, near Rathmore, Kerry. John lived to 103 years old and had an interesting life. He died in 1904. He was a stonemason who (I think) married Johanna MURPHY from Reanasup. She and a daughter may have died during the famine as John married again in 1858. He married Mary DESMOND and they had 9 children: 1.Cornelius MORIARTY, born in Cloonts, near Rathmore, 1859 married Margaret CRONIN 2. Daniel MORIARTY, born 1861, Cloonts 3. John MORIARTY, born 1862, Cloonts 4. Margaret MORIARTY, born 1866 Millstreet, Cork 5.Johanna MORIARTY, born 1869, Coom, Kerry 6. Denis MORIARTY, born 1871, Coom married Mary SULLIVAN 7. John MORIARTY, born 1873, Coom 8. Patrick MORIARTY, born 1875, Coom 9. Michael MORIARTY, born 1880, Coom My ggfather was John MORIARTY, not listed above, who was the illegitimate child of the above John M (stonemason) and Ellen DONOHOE. Mary DESMOND was the baptismal sponsor and presumably raised him. My John M was born in Cloonts in 1859 and was effectively the 2nd eldest of the children. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1878 and married Abina LUCEY who was from Aubane, near Millstreet, Cork.
