After transcribing this civil parish's tithes last week I became fascinated with it because it contains so many Connors people plus a few Gilhooly's who is also in my tree, marrying a Flanagan whose daughter married into the O'Connor/Connors branch. Anyhow, I have these documented through baptism and marriage records from Tipperary RC Parish but none had townlands mentioned, so I have been searching the tithes and Griffith's Valutions starting with Tipperary Town and circling out. Anyhow, I now have transcribed the Griffith's Valuation for Cordangan CP and have it online at my website under County Tipperary. There are over 600 names in that database. I have also added a search engine to the site to make things easier for searches. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton

I have not done this before. If I have made an error on my request please advise. In era around 1850-60 these ancestors lived in County Cavan, Ireland, registered in the Parish of St. Dallans but attended the closer RC church in Killeshandra. John McCabe, Catherine Fitzpartick, Bridget McCabe, Charles O'Reilly (Riley),. They emmigrated to the New York City area after leaving Ireland, later settled in the midwest. Does anyone have any connections to these people or can advise of an URL for the Sacrement Records of St. Dallans church before 1860? Hope we connect!
I have transcribed four more County Tipperary civil parishes' Tithe Applotments: Corroge, Kilmore (South Riding), Coolmundry and Cordangan. You can access the databases by going to the URL below my name. On my homepage, at the top, under Ireland, click on County Tipperary. If anyone has Connors/O'Connors from Cordangan CP, could you contact me off list, please. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton

Just found that Ireland as this site for all of the country, wonderful, so will pass it on to others in NZ where I am.. Now for starters, I am researching my maiden name.. PENTONY, learnt they were in Co. Meath in 12th Century... My PENTONY were in Liverpool, but JOHN PENTONY was my gt.gt.grandfather born in Dublin.. he died in Liverpool in 1884, prominent business man, made leather shoes for the Police, etc... I have nothing on my JOHN ie parents, I only have his descendants. most of his sons entered the Benedictan Order of Monks at Ampleforth in Yorkshire.. So if anyone, anywhere is researching this PENTONY name, I would love to hear from you, many thanks.. Adele Pentony-Graham (cant let it die out !!) Clareville NZ

In "Irish Pedigrees", by O'Hart, the name is spelled in the index of "Names in Ireland ", as PENTENY and PENTENEY. That's all there is regarding those names in the two vols. I have updated the Irish books section of my website with new books and lookup volunteers. Many on the list visited Ireland over the Summer and probably brought home a new book or two. If you are like me, you needed to buy a new bag to carry them all home :-) Maybe some new parish history books have been published that is not included in the Parish History books section. So, check out the books listed and if you find you have books that are not listed, you can use the convenient form on the bottom of each page to submit them. I will then include your book with my next update. Of course, you need not be a lookup volunteer, if you list a book. Thanks to all who have made this website so successful. You can find the links at the bottom of this page: http://www.connorsgenealogy.com/books/ Also, if you find a book that you might like to buy, on this page are many bookstore links, many located in Ireland. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton

The following in in today's Ancestry Daily Newsletter. Immediate Action Requested Legislation in Congress Seeks to Restrict Access to Birth Records; FGS Recommends Writing to Your Congressional Representatives The U.S. House of Representatives is considering a bill, House Resolution 10 (H.R. 10), which seeks to restrict access to birth certificates. This bill, which purpose is to respond to the threat of terrorism, is on a fast track to passage and has been voted on by several committees already. Your help is needed now. David Rencher, Chairman of the Record Access and Preservation Committee, a joint committee of the National Genealogical Society and Federation of Genealogical Societies, has sent a letter to the bill's sponsor, Congressman Dennis Hastert, recommending an amendment to the bill as follows: "However, nothing in this Chapter 2 shall be construed to require a State to change its law with respect to public access to (A) non-certified copies of birth certificates, or to (B) birth certificates or birth records once a period of 100 years has elapsed from the date of creation of the certificate or record." A copy of the letter is available on the FGS site at www.fgs.org/rpa/formalactions.htm. To view this bill, go to http://thomas.loc.gov. Enter HR 10 in the search box for "Bill Number." Action Is Needed Now Because this bill is moving toward passage so quickly, it is urged that the genealogical community take action immediately and let their representatives know that they are in support of David Rencher's amendment and the FGS position in this important matter. To find your state representative's contact information, go to www.house.gov/writerep/. How Should I Word My Letter? While you should word the letter in any way that is comfortable for you, it is recommended that you include the following as a portion of the letter: "While I support the intention to increase security to protect the U.S. from terrorists and those who wish to improperly take U.S. identities, I am concerned that those researching their family's history continue to have access to non-certified birth records. Therefore, in order to support HR-10 I ask that you amend HR-10 Section 3063(d)(2) by adding the following wording to the existing paragraph: 'However, nothing in this Chapter 2 shall be construed to require a State to change its law with respect to public access to (A) non-certified copies of birth certificates or to (B) birth certificates or birth records once a period of 100 years has elapsed from the date of creation of the certificate or record.' I believe that this additional language is imperative so that the states do not react by restricting all certificates to comply with the law, rather than dealing with certified as opposed to non-certified birth certificates. This proposed amendatory language would remind them that they can and should be treated differently."
My g,g,g grandfather JOHN L WILSON came to America "a very young man" :). He was born 13 June 1805. My thoughts are that he came here 1820 or after. One census states he was born at Cork (it didnt state City or County). Does anyone have any suggestions of where to look for any information?
