    2. Steven Smyrl
    3. Members of the newsgroup might be interested in this (below). I have no involvement or commercial interest in these publications. Cheers, Steven Smyrl ----------------------------------- REGISTER OF THE PARISH OF ST NICHOLAS, GALWAY 1792-1840 Edited by Brigid Clesham Published by the Representative Church Body Library, Dublin, 2004 Between 1906 and 1915 the Parish Register Society of Dublin published twelve volumes of Church of Ireland parish registers, mainly, but not exclusively, from the city and county of Dublin. This work was taken over, in 1920, by the Association for the Preservation of the Memorials of the Dead which published extracts from parish registers in its Journal until 1934. In 1994 the Representative Church Body Library, which is the Church of Ireland's principal repository for its archives and manuscripts, began a new programme of publication. This register is the ninth volume in this series. The register of the parish of St Nicholas, Galway, which is preserved in the Representative Church Body Library, is the most substantial register to survive from the diocese of Tuam. Its contents reflect the role of Galway as an administrative centre for both church and state, as a seaport, garrison and much else and is a valuable resource for both local history and genealogy. ______________________________________________________________ Register of the Parish St Nicholas, Galway, 1792-1840 Paperback: 163 pp, including index of names. 2. Darryl Scarff
    3. My Power ancestors were born and lived at Baurnafea for the past 200 years. The Power family farm is still in the family at Baurnafea. My Power ancestors in the following chart were born at Baurnafea and Ballyfoyle. Their birth/ baptisms were recorded at the Paulstown R.C. Church. Many of the deaths are recorded on gravestones in the Paulstown R.C. Church graveyard. My g.grandmother, Mary Power was born at Baurnafea in 1831,emigrated to Australia and married my g.grandfather, William Scarfe of Baunreagh, Co. Carlow, at Ballarat Victoria, in 1836. Her mother was recorded as Margaret Harrold, Margaret Harrell and Margaret Harrow. My enquiries have only identified the name Harrold at Leighlinbridge and Bagenalstown, circa 1800. 1. Albert Power, sculptor 1881 - 1945, and his father, Henry Power
    2. Dr Con Power
    3. I am trying to obtain some information about Henry Power, the father of the famous Irish monumental sculptor, Albert Power RHA sculptor 1881 - 1945. Albert Power was born at 8 Barrack Street [now Benburb Street], Dublin on 16th November 1881. His father was Henry Power, jeweller [maker and repairer of clocks and watches, including pocket watches]. It would be a great help if I could trace where Henry Power was born, his date of birth, and the names of his parents. Albert's mother was Mary Atkins from Dublin. Mary was an only daughter, but she had seven brothers. She was an embroiderer. When Albert was 2 years old, the family moved to 17 Ellis Quay. There was a shop premises beneath the living quarters. In 1893, Henry Power obtained possession of the shop, and he established a jeweller's there. The family continued to live above the shop. Albert Power attended the St Paul's C B S North Brunswick Street. The reason for my interest is that I had a granduncle, Henry Power, about whom I cannot trace any information other than his birth and baptism in Waterford in 1857. I have in my possession a gold pocket watch that was given to my father, also Henry Power, by his uncle at some stage in the late 1910s or during the 1920s. The coincidence of the name Henry Power and the fact that he was a jeweller [maker and repairer of clocks and watches, including pocket watches] drew my attention to Albert Power's father when I was recently reading a biography of Albert Power. Henry seems to have been a relatively unusual name in the Power family in the 1800s. I found, for example, that only one death of a Henry Power was registered in County Waterford [the home of thousands of persons by name Power] between the introduction of civil registration in Ireland in 1865 and the year 1900. Any information would be much appreciated. Dr Con Power [born at Gracedieu East, Waterford and now living in Dublin, Ireland]

    1. re JOYCE HOUSE
    2. John Kelly
    3. I have previously sent to Sligo for records of my ancestors born there. They were able to locate one out of 7 births/baptismal records. and no record of a marriage for the parents. What are the chances that JOYCE HOUSE might have these records?????? the births/Baptisms would all be between 1846 and 1862 in Sligo. The parish record that I have for one of the baptisms is KILTU R.C. Towland or MOYRUSH . this is on the border with Mayo. Looking for the following Honorah born 1846, Mary 1847, Sarah 1849, Ann 1854, Martin 1855, Bridget 1859 and Ellen this I have a record of 1861. Parents were Martin Benson and Sarah Regan , on the record she is listed as SALLY Regan. based on the above information is it likely I would have any luck with these records at Joyce House?????? The only marriage would have been for the parents Martin and Sarah ( Regan ) Benson, Martin was deceased by 1867. The family in 1867 wqs living in Lancashire , England and that is where most of the girls were married. Any advice anyone can offer would be appreciated.
