    1. Genealogy
    2. Hi, Doing genealogy I "found" a first cousin once removed and he had information about our ggrandparents and a gaunt. He also told me about my guncle who murdered his daughter in a drunken rage. He was 67 at the time and was sent away and died the next year. I had heard he killed someone in a fight, but you see how stories come down. I got the newspaper reports about his arrest. My cousin was also able to tell me about his aunt, who was my mother's cousin. She is still alive and at that time was 98. I was so excited and thought she would be a great source of information. However, when he approached her she couldn't understand why we wanted to go into all that stuff. It is really a shame, because I know why she doesn't want to go into "that stuff" but I would love to hear stories about my aunts, uncles and other cousins. At the present time she is my great brick wall and she doesn't even want to meet me although she remembers my mother. Rita

    1. CLIFFORD/LARKIN/OROURKE
    2. Hi, My ggrandmother was Catherine CLIFFORD, who came over from Ireland about 1858-60. Her father and brothers sent her over because conditions weren't great at home and she was supposed to go home again when things were better. From what I understand they were landowners and bankers, but don't know too much about this or where they were from in Ireland. She stayed in Brooklyn supposedly with cousins, not sure whether they were BAKER or BUTLER. Her brother's friend, William LARKIN, came over about 1859, they met and were married in 1860. They had ten children, my grandmother the eldest, Mary Frances, born in 1861. Her father died in 1877 and my ggrandmother became a detective at Abraham and Straus Dept. store. She died in 1907. Mary Francis married Michael J. O'ROURKE in 1886-7. He was born in Ireland and his mother was a MC CORMACK. He was a crane operator on the Brooklyn Bridge. They had eleven children and he died in 1915 and she died 1938.

    1. FYI: Boston's "Missing Friends" ads now online
    2. Richard Danca
    3. Just in time for St. Patrick's day, Boston College has announced it's putting online the "Missing Friends" column through which Irish immigrants in Boston tried to find relatives and friends they'd lost track of. This is potentially an incredibly useful resource for those of us searching for *our* relatives. It previously was available only as an eight-volume collection of books. The database is at <infowanted.bc.edu> There's a long article about the ads and the database in today's Boston Globe: <http://www.boston.com/news/education/higher/articles/2005/03/17/the_irish_immigrant_past_gets_tie_to_today/> -- --- Richard A.
