    1. [SH] Fw: DELAHUNTY - DELANTY - DeLanty etc.
    2. M R BIRRELL
    3. Dear Friends at Shamrock, Herewith some of the names we are seeking in Ireland. Thank you for this opportunity list our surnames with you. We are still seeking links to WILLIAM DELAHUNTY who came to Australia 1853--1856. He married in 1857 to JANE FLETCHER from Mountshannon Co.Clare. Detail on this William is sketchy as we only have a marriage of JANE FLETCHER in 1857 to WILLIAM HICKEY (which could have been an alias) as he always registered his 12 children as one form or another of Delahunty, Dulihanty, DeLanty (8 variations). This was of course, a result of the accents of the registrars. After 15 years - we feel this is the only answer. There were never any children born to William Hickey and no other Jane Fletcher of that time, or anything near her for that matter. She was always noted as coming from Mountshannon or Co.Cork Workhouse, as she was an orphan, until boarding the Lady Kennaway. Jane went to the workhouse at Maitland N.S.W. until she married. WILLIAM'S parents were Pierce HICKEY and Mary WALSH if we are to believe his marriage certificate. (Could it have been Pierce HICKEY and Mary WALSH ?) We did meet some Delahunty families during our visit and there was certainly many families with that name. He would have been about 27 years when he arrived c.1853-56. It is a slim one and I am not 'holding my breath'. However, there may just be a link to someone. Sincerely in Searching..Thelma (Bostock) Birrell in Australia. In a message dated 2/27/01 4:02:18 PM, D.Moran@btinternet.com writes: << Can anyone tell me what 'Glebe' means in the following context Gillespie: Killyharry (Glebe) >> Glebe lands were lands which traditionally belonged to the church. In the Middle Ages, there were certain families which by hereditary charge, took care of the land for the parish (farming it, living there, etc). It also means that the townland of Killyharry (or at least that portion lived on by the Gillespies) was owned by the parish and rents most likely went for the support of the parish. Most likely at this time, ( if this is from Griffith's Valuation ) it would mean the official church--the C of I. Janet C-S

    1. [SH] Re: Digest problems (was blanks)
    2. Maura
    3. As addressed on our homepage, some isp's turn digests into attachments that you have to open (aol is notorious for doing this). This is -not- a Rootsweb problem, this is something you have to address with your isp. I've heard that resetting your mail options somehow allievates this problem. If you are a digest user and get "blank" digests, you need to contact your isp to find out what the problem is with your email settings. Unfortunately, it's not something I (or Rootsweb) can assist you with. If you can't fix the situation, your alternative would be to resubscribe in regular mail mode, where you get each message individually. 1. [SH] Freeholder's lists
    2. Lorrie Maher
    3. Does anyone have access to or know where I might get a copy of the Freeholder's lists say for 1822 for County Monoghan and/or County Clare. I have a partial surname list for County Limerick but I am looking for Molony/Moloney/etc in County Clare and while some the Limerick entries look hopeful, I am sure of Killaloe, Co Clare connections until the late 1820s. The Co Monoghan lists would be helpful as my relatives mainly Murphy do not appear on the Co Louth lists of which I have seen a copy as they were mainly in Carrickmacross and Killany, with the Clinton relatives around the Maghernacligh area particularly the castle. Thanks Lorrie (Brisbane Australia)

    3. Hello Shamrockers, I have just joined this list, and wonder if anyone can help me with the above names. I am doing a 'one name study' (if you can call that one name!) to trace the migratory paths taken by anyone with the name from their native Ireland to other parts of the globe. Thanks in advance for any pieces of info you may be able to add. Patti

    1. [SH] [Admin] Rootsweb server down
    2. Maura
    3. About 48 hours ago listowners received a notice that the Rootsweb server (including webpages and lists) would be down for about 24 hours for "maintenence". It's now been much longer than the 48 hours, and I"ve seen only a few messages going through two lists I am on, one my CountyCork list and one small parish list for Louisiana I am on. As of this writing I have seen no messages at all come through for the SHAMROCK or Waterford lists. I'm writing to tell you this as I am already getting a deluge of "what's wrong" messages and people trying to resubscribe because they think they were unsubbed .... which is causing more problems. Also, this is Mardi Gras holiday for us down in Mobile... so I am not around a lot to monitor what is going on. So... maybe you will get this message soon to explain why you haven't gotten any messages, maybe it will not go through until Rootsweb is finished doing whatever it is they are doing. In any case, please don't send messages to the list or to me about this... it's beyond my control. When the server is running again we should get all messages that have been sent during this "down time" (hopefully). Thanks for understanding and Happy Mardi Gras.... 1. [SH] Co. Tipperary near Thurles
    2. I have discovered that my KERWIN/KIRWAN line originated around Thurles in Co. Tipperary. At one time they supposedly owned a small caste that was called Latherum Castle . My spelling may be off some. Would anyone have any KIRWAN/KERWIN lines around this area? I am looking for Thomas KIRWAN who was married to Elizabeth VICKERS bef. 1836. Eliz. was born abt. 1805 so I am assuming that Thomas was born around the same time. Thanks. Robin Co. Tipperary: VICKERS, SHERRY, KIRWAN Co. Tyrone: COOPER Co. 1. [SH] CLARKE
    2. Ann M. Harrington
    3. I am new to this list and am looking for any more concrete information on the following Clarke family. Cornelius Clarke, b. probably late 1870s early 1880s in Ireland? Married Catherine Quartermas, b.? d.? She was apparently the daughter of an English Quaker. They had four Children: Mary F. Clarke, b. March 2, 1803; Catherine, b. best guess 1805; Martha, b. best guess 1806; Edward, b. best guess 1807 or 8. Edward m. ? and they had two children, Mary Jane, b. 1846, and a son, b. best guess 1848. Cornelius Clarke apparently had a leather business in Dublin on Dominick Street, which is apparently where the family lived. Mary F. Clarke started a school in Dublin in 1832 on North Ann Street. It was called Miss Clarkes Seminary. She then left Dublin the summer of 1833 with three companions to go to Philadelphia where they taught. Any information on this Clarke family would be very much appreciated. Thank you. Ann M. Harrington <aharri1@orion.it.luc.edu>

    1. [SH] CLANCY / SIMONS
    2. Susan Hantke-Ogden
    3. I am researching my gg grandmother, Margaret CLANCY who was married (?) to George SIMONS. They had three children that I know of- Elizabeth (my g grandmother), Mary J(ane), and Zachariah. In 1860 Elizabeth married my ggrandfather, Ferdinand HANTKE. On two certificates it states Margaret born in US, on census and other documents, it states her birth as Ireland. I would like any morsel of info anyone might have on Margaret CLANCY. I believe their domicile was NY state, with Rochester and Brooklyn/NY area. Canadian ties also a possibility. Hoping to hear from someone soon! Susan Hantke-Ogden

    3. Looking for more information/descendants for author Eamon de Siunta (Ernest Edwin Joynt) who was born 1874 in Ballina, Mayo and d. 1955 in Dublin, Ireland. He supposedly translated Pilgrim's Progress into Irish and wrote short stories in Irish and French. He was the son of Richard Watson Joynt (youngest of 17 children of Henry Joynt and Eleanor Johnston/Johnson), at one time editor of Ballina newspaper ( I think the Ballina Herald). Eamon/Ernest married 1) Ethel Bray and then 2) Frances Young. Ernest went to Methodist College, Belfast (1888-1892), became chief draughtsman at the Inchicore railway works in Dublin and Principal of Bolton St. Technical schools, Dublin.
