I am at my wits end researching my gg grandmother, Margret CLANCY. She is listed on the NY marriage certificate as the mother of Elizabeth SIMONS-daughter of Margaret and George SIMONS. Elizabeth was born in Rochester (NY, I believe) and was 21 years of age when she married Ferdinand HANTKE, my g grandfather. That would put Elizabeth being born about 1839 so Margaret was born about 1809-1819 I presume. Elizabeth had two siblings that I know of, Mary J(ane) and Zachariah SIMONS. She listed 82 Delancy St as the residence at time of marriage which is where Ferdinand lived. I found oin Mary J's death certificate that Margaret was born in Ireland, but on a census it stated parent born in Ireland. I surmise it was Ireland. George was from Germany. Can anyone help me with this elusive Margaret CLANCY and see if you possibly might have a Margaret CLANCY in your trees or research. For some reason, I think he died and she remarried or that they divorced. Just a premonition. I need to knock down this brick wall. Any and all help, or ideas, is more than appreciated. I am willing to reimburse for any help. Susan

Margaret RAFTER(Y)/RAFTREE b. 1846 Timacat, Kilkerrin Parish, Co Galway ..... to England in the Great Famine with parent(s) and at least two sisters and one brother. Parent(s) died and children to English workhouse until age 14. One sister was Ellen, married Loughman or Loughner. Other sister may have married Peter Dugan. Brother was John RAFTER(Y)/RAFTREE, born in Co Mayo. Three girls came to USA, New York City. John went to Wales, then Yorkshire, married twice.
Edward COSTELLO born Co Mayo in May, 1838, emigrated 1853, served in 1st NY Cavalry Regiment (Lincoln's Cavalry) in the Civil War in place of his cousin, Edward Higgins of Tarrytown, NY.
Margaret Rafter(y) was born in nearby Timacat, Parish of Kilcullen, Co Galway, in 1846, very close to Ballina, Co Mayo. During the famine her parents made it somehow to England, but both died. She, two sisters, a brother were raised in workhouses in England to 14 .... and all the girls came to the USA, to NYC, but the brother did not and I have located him on the UK 1881 Census with his family, where it says he was born in Co Mayo..... so it looks like the family may have moved a bit in Ireland, too, before going to England .... and maybe only my grandmother, the youngest and born during the famine, was born in Galway. The English changed their surname to Raftree, all the children. There is no such name in Ireland and the brother (and family) was the only one in England in 1881! Please share with me any info you have that might confirm or deny a relationship. I will look further in Ballina as a result of your post. Thanks so much!
