Dear Maura and all Shamrockers.....HAPPY ST.PATRICK'S DAY to all of you.!!!! We are off to Tranquil Park at Maleny where Irish fare is served and St.Patricks bar will be busy (not for me though). After lunch the Inaugural Road Bowls will begin and finish about 3 miles along the road at the Celtic Tea House. The most magnificent panorama across the whole of the Glasshouse Mountains is there, in full view for everybody in the restaurant. I trust it wont be raining as it seems like a beautiful day at the moment. I can assure you there will be plenty of 'green'. All just enjoy....Sincerely in Searching...Thelma & Matthew on the Sunshine Coast. Dear Listers, Does anyone have anything about the surname NIHEN or NIHAN? John NIHEN, born in probably County Cork in January 1843, emigrated to Aberavon, Wales, somewhere around 1851 and lived/married (Mary CLEMENS) there. John, wife, and two children (Anna Agnes and Katherine) emigrated to Audenreid, Pennsylvania, in 1869. John's father was named Daniel NIHEN, according to John's 1907 Pennsylvania death certificate. John and Daniel would have been my g-grandfather and gg-grandfather respectively. If there is another NIHEN out there, there must be a connection with such an unusual surname. Any help will be appreciated ... obviously! Happy St. Patrick's Day! Joe NIHEN Pennsylvania Researching: NIHEN, NIHAN, ELLIOTT, CLEMENS, ... and a bunch more.

I hope that I can make a connection. My family comes mostly from Kerry & Clare. >From Clare, my grandmother, Mary Josephine Lysaght (1894-1973 daughter of John & Bridget Jordan Lysaght of Lisconnar), my great great grandfather Michael Dorsey (1828-1923 son of Luke & Ann Reidy Dorsey maybe from Ennis) and my great grandfather Den(n)is Gavin (1845-1900 son of Michael & Mary Gavin). From Kerry, my great great great grandfather Thomas Roche (1798-1874 son of Thomas & Mary ? Roche), he left Tralee for Haverhill, Massachusetts in the early-mid 1850's with his wife, Mary Martin Roche & their 5 young adult children, Michael, Mary, John, Margaret, James & Ellen. All (except Ellen) married and raised families there and most of the family remained in that city until WWII. Also my mother's grandparents, Michael Hoar (c.1846-1919 son of Michael & Bridget Connors Hoar, we think he was born in Castlegregory) and his wife Ellen Quirk (1859-1941 daughter of Michael (of Emlough) & Hanora Kennedy (of Coumduff) Quirk. We are not sure where she was born but their children were born in Annascaul. I have others too. My great grandmother, Bridget Foley of Ballylanders, Limerick (1853-1926 daughter of James & Catherine ? Foley), Mary Power(s) , my great great grandmother (married James Roche 10/13/1857, Haverhill), of Mitcheltown. It appears that her mother, brother, Nicholas (1833-1904) & sister Johanna also came here. Her parents were Roger & Hanora Cane (1791-1881) Power(s). We guess that her father died in Ireland as we are unable to find any record of him. Also Ann Norton (1839-1900), my great great grandmother, she was born in County Cavan and was the daughter of James & Ann O'Brien Doyle Norton. She married Michael Dorsey on 11/05/1859 in Lowell, MA. I hope to find a connection. Regards, JoAnn
