I'm trying to locate the baptismal records of my paternal grandfather, James Hahesy, ca. 1856 and his father William Hahesy ca. 1818.. Waterford Heritage Services found his parents'* marriage record 4 March 1848 at Portlaw & Ballyduff parish, as well as James' older siblings' baptisms: Michael Hahesy 1850 John Hahesy 1852 Patrick Hahesy 1853 Thomas Hahesy 1855 Edmund Hahesy 1857 (my unofficial family records have shown James' "birth" as 17 May 1856, but we can't find an official birth or baptism record. Any record for him shows only "Co. Waterford") James' parents*: William Hahesy and Bridget Houlahan Hahesy. Bridget Houlahan's parents: Edmund Houlahan and Johanna Callahan Houlahan, Portlaw & Ballyduff parish. Waterford Heritage sent me baptismal records on Bridget Houlahan and her siblings, Michael 1822, John 1823, Bridget 1827, Thomas 1829, Joanna 1833, James 1836, Mary 1838.. No record found for William Hahesy's baptism in the parishes searched. A Houlahan cousin copied the same Houlahan baptisms from the record book at Sacred Heart church, Rathgormuck, but the dates are different by a year or two either way. Can anyone tell me why the same family and essentially the same records would be under Portlaw & Ballyduff Parish AND Rathgormuck Parish, same names but slightly different baptismal dates? Any leads on baptismal records of James Hahesy or his father William Hahesy will be greatly appreciated. HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY and thanks. Bev Hahesy Hannon, Iowa

The imperial gallon was also larger than the USA gallon. Now with metric who knows what we have!! Have a happy St. Patrick's Day.
I have visited a place called Kirkconnell House in Kirkcudbright, Scotland where there is a double-walled field called the "Scottish acre." Apparently a Scottish acre was 'as much as man could plough with an ox in one day.' By the way, the double wall around the field had out-crops in which fires were set in order to heat the inside of the field, thus enabling the owner to grow tropical plants and fruit. Merv. Rowan

Dear Mary Ann, This is probably only a coincidence, but it might me worth pursuing. My g-g-grandmother, in the 1910 census, had a boarder named Michael Keating at 3546 S. Lowe in Chicago. My g-g-grandmother was Catherine Gibney McCann,b. 1841 in Castlepollard, Co. Westmeath. My g-g-grandfather was James McCann, (unsure of birthdate or place). Two different documents give birthdates 10 years apart (1835 & 1845) but no birthplace. I do know that they were married in Castlepollard in 1859. I offer the possibility that her boarder was a Keating because the families were known to each other in Ireland. Let me know what you think. Pat McCann -- Patrick J.
