My sincere thanks to Eleanor, Ellen, Jeanne, Brian, Gene and Brendan for their suggestions with regard to the whereabouts of Linstie. Leinster seems to be a favourite with a few other possibilities. Now down to work. Most of you recommended the website below. Thankyou again Sandra > > This search allow you to locate any townland, parish or village in each of > > > Ireland's thirty two counties. > > http://www.seanruad.com/ > > You can also use wildcards. > > Mapquest.com can get to the parish but not the townland. > > > >
Hi ...Anyone on this list looking for a Patrick Power(s) born in Ireland, I guess may be 1819?? married Mary Ann Oneil on 9 Sept.1848 in the Church of Notre-Dame-de-Quebec in Quebec city. Mary Ann Oneil was born in Quebec her parents were born in Ireland. After their marriage they lived in St.Roch,12 Park Lane,Quebec and attended St Patrick's R.C.Church. Children were Michael E Power(s) born 1851?, William R.Power(s) born 1852-54?, (may have been a cousin not sure yet) both came to Buffalo,NY around 1869 and 1871, Ellen Born 1853?, Margaret born 1859?, Patrick born 1861? died 1/1864 Mary Power(s) died on18 April 1871. Patrick married Mary Julie Buckingham in the parish of St.Roch,Quebec on 7 Sept. 1872 Mary's parents were Owen O'Neil and Margaret Moran, born in Ireland Patrick's parents were Michael Power(s) and Honoria Hassett, born in Ireland Haven't been able to trace Patrick or 2nd wife Mary Buckingham or siblings Margaret, Ellen, Patrick after 1871 Canadian census.Sibling Michael my gr-grand father came to Buffalo,NY in 1869 died 8/1924. Not sure if William was his brother or cousin, for awhile was almost sure he was his brother.William came to Buffalo,NY about 1871-72 died 1907 married to Mary Gottleman about 20 July 1881. They had 8 kids. Their first daugther Margaret Power was my God-Mother. William's parents may be Robert Power and Mary Morne? The last info I can find of Patrick Power is 1881 Canadian census of a Patrick Power 59 yrs old in the Palais Ward of Quebec City may have been a convent with numerous individuals. As with with all family research I'm not 100 % sure this is all correct. If any one is researching this same line I'd like to hear from you, and exchange info Thanks, Norm Hamilton [email protected]
Hi Sandra, Allowing for different dialects etc. there is an outside chance that it could be Lisnaskea in County Fermanagh. As they say "if all fruit fails welcome haws"! A suggestion - perhaps Leinster in Co. Kildare. Regards, Brian <[email protected]>
Hi, Sandra! Well, when I read your query about "Linstie, Ireland," my first thought was Leinster, which is a big area, a province, not a city, town or townland. But then I tried putting in "lein" using www.seanruad.com and came up with five returns. Try it and see. I was going to copy and paste, but it's too complicated! I tried "lins" and got 71, but nothing looked likely. Don't forget you can use parts of place names and it'll return anything that has that sequence of letters anywhere in a place name. Good luck! Hello, Listers and Admin; I was wondering, if SKS would, please, send me a website/e-mail to the Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild and one to the "Immigrants to North America" Filby and Myers--that is, if, you have it. This would be greatly appreciated, as I am trying to look for the JULIA which was the Cork Harbour in 1887, in and around Sept. of that year. I am trying to look for from where she actually came and her passenger list. She was a cargo barque and my grfa. got on it and went to N.Y. I have tried all or most of the Sites for the NY Harbours, etc., to no avail. Anyone got any suggestions, please? Thank you very much. Shannah
Thankyou Ellen for the website which for some reason I hadn't thought of this time. I tried it, on your prompting, but unfortunately didn't get a result. Maybe someone can suggest a place in Ireland that may have sounded like Linstie to a North of England enumerator when spoken with an Irish accent. Or even looked like Linstie to a transcriber. I lost my Dublin bookmarks but managed to recapture all except those with Dublin relevance. Any help in rebuilding my Dublin resources would be greatly appreciated. Joanne in CA

I have chosen to remember my 2nd great grandfather, Patt MULDERIG, who was found in his cabin dead of starvation 16 May, 1847 in Grallagh, Kildacommage parish, Mayo by spreading the word of The Hunger Site. You can help an estimated one billion of the worlds people who face relentless poverty and chronic hunger. Simply visit The Hunger Site (http://www.thehungersite.com/home) every day and contribute food to the world's hungry at no cost to you. When you click on the "Give Free Food" button on the home page of The Hunger Site, funding is generated for the purchase and distribution of staple food to those in need. Funds are paid by site sponsors. In 2001, over 1 million pounds of food were made possible by people like you, who simply took a moment to click a button each day.
