Maurice worked as a dairyman, running a dairy shop in Rathmines for all of his life. Maurice died in 1866 and is buried in Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin. Maurice and Catherine had at least 8 children: 1. Patrick BYRNE (c. 1829-1874) married Ellen. Patrick was also a dairyman. 2. Catherine BYRNE (1833-1833) died as a baby, and is buried in Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin, alongside her parents. 3. Michael BYRNE (c. 1835-1913) married Anne BRENNAN in 1865. Michael also worked as a dairyman. 4. Peter BYRNE (b. 1835) was born in Rathmines. 5. Maria BYRNE (b. 1837) was also born in Rathmines. 6. Thomas BYRNE (c. 1841-1856) died as a teenager and is buried in the family grave in Glasnevin. 7. Catherine BYRNE (b. 1842) may have lived her life a spinster. She was present at the death of her mother in 1866, and the marriage of her sister in 1867. 8. Sarah BYRNE (b. 1843) married Arthur Hanlon in 1867. Arthur may have been related to Sarah's mother. Arthur took over the BYRNE family dairy business in Rathmines. Anyone know this line of the BYRNE clan? Roy
Mary (a.k.a. Maria) EARL was born in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath in 1858, the daughter of Daniel EARL (c. 1836-1904) and Anne Melia (1830-1911). Mary immigrated to the Unite States c. 1884 and settled in Hudson Falls (then Sandy Hill), NY. She became the second wife of another Irish immigrant, Patrick MURRAY (born c. 1847), in 1888. Patrick had a son, Frank P. MURRAY (b. 1878), from his first marriage. Patrick and Mary had a daughter themselves, Mary A. (a.k.a. Mayme) MURRAY (b. 1890). Both Patrick and Frank worked as "color mixers" in Hudson Falls. Frank married Anna Irving in 1909. The couple lived for a while in Hudson Falls before moving to York, PA. Mary EARL moved with her daughter around 1920 to Brooklyn, NY, presumably after the death of her husband, Patrick. At that time, Mary was working as an adding machine operator for the Standard Oil Company. Anyone know this line of the EARL and MURRAY clans? Roy

Hi Listers, William EARL (born c. 1800) may have originated from Co. Wexford. He married his wife, Sarah (a.k.a. Sabina) CREEVY (c. 1788-1873) some time, at least around 1836, in Dublin City. By 1845, the couple had at least two children, Margaret EARL (1826-1845) and Daniel EARL (c. 1836-1904) and were living in Vilanstown, just outside Mullingar, Co. Westmeath. William was a servant. William died before his wife, and Sarah was left in the care of her some, Daniel, and lived her final years in the town of Mullingar. Anyone know of this line of the Earl clan? Roy
Hello there to all on the list My name is Donald Reid, from Wellington, New Zealand. My grandfather, one Alfred Reid, gives his birth date as 29/10/1884 and his place of birth as Manchester, on his NZ marriage certificate. So, what am I doing on an Irish list? Well, I have had all likely dates in Manchester checked, and tried Preston as well, but to no avail. It seems that his family may well have been Catholic and I am starting to wonder about an Irish connection; a family that moved to Manchester some time in the 1880s, perhaps. Alfred gives his father as James Reid and his mother as Margaret (nee McLennon). So, can anyone please enlighten me, were there Reid's in Ireland and if so, where were they distributed? I am hoping there might be a concentration of them in a few parishes, but that is probably hopelessly optimistic. I know that Reid exists in Scotland as well as England, so some may have crossed the Irish Sea in time gone by, but was the name also used natively in Ireland? Any help or suggestions gratefully received. By the way, if some kind person is thinking of looking up, or is able to lookup, records such as census data, I believe the birth date given is a little out, as it does not tie in with the age given on the marriage certificate, and his wife was older, so perhaps he was trying to lessen the age-gap. Something between 1884 and 1890 is probably close. Regards Donald

Looking for Margaret Sullivan who is listed in the 1904 obituary of my gr-grandfather, John J. O'Malley or O'Melia, as a sister and living in Syracuse, New York. The family came to USA from Ireland about 1856. I have searched the 1900 Syracuse census and have not found her. John O'Malley was 38 in 1904 when he died. So I am thinking that Margaret might be in her 80's also. Any connection out there? Mary Kay in So. Wisconsin
