This benefit is not available to Institutional Members at this time. /Otherdays.com/ normally charges $44 per year for this access. NEHGS members will now receive the same access for no extra charge above the normal NEHGS membership fee. Anyone tracing their Irish ancestry will find /Otherdays.com/’s offerings invaluable. The site offers not only a unique set of databases but also collections of maps and photographs and a number of other tools and resources for the Irish researcher. In addition, the site’s collections include an archive of general background and historical information. There are currently over 100 databases on /Otherdays.com/. The databases include Griffith’s Valuation; Placenames of Ireland; census and census substitutes; a variety of different types of directories; newspapers; gravestone inscriptions; vital records; wills and deeds; and land and property records. One new database is being added every week. The centerpiece of the genealogy databases is the /Griffith’s Valuation of Ireland/ from 1847 to 1864. As described on the website, it is a comprehensive listing of persons who rented land and property throughout the country and is the most complete record of heads of household for Ireland during this period, as most census records for the nineteenth century were destroyed. Through this database, /Otherdays.com/ provides a comprehensive online index to Griffith’s Valuation. The database covers all thirty-two counties. The records provide the following information: townland name, Ordnance Survey Map number, plot number, name of land/house holder, immediate lessor, description of holding, acreage, and valuation. The results are linked to images of the actual pages. Each entry in Griffith’s Valuation is linked to the relevant /Ordnance Survey Map/. Ordnance Survey Maps show the county, barony, parish and townland boundaries, and the cities, towns, and villages throughout Ireland. These maps are detailed enough to allow one to identify individual houses and other structures. The /Placenames of Ireland/ database has more than 80,000 place names and covers all towns, villages, townlands, and streets. Each place name is linked to the corresponding entries from Griffith’s Valuation and to the relevant Ordnance Survey Map. A significant number of the databases on the site may be found under the /Census and Census Substitutes/ heading. These databases include records extracted from city directories; lists of clergy of various denominations in a variety of locales; hospital applications and departures; lists of people in various occupations; and crimes and victims of crimes, to name a few. There are also historical /Newspaper/ databases on the site extracted from three early newspapers—the /Belfast Newsletter/, 1801; the /Freeman’s Journal/, 1775-1776; and the /Dublin Penny/ /Journal/, 1832-1836. A number of other resources and tools are available on the site. They include Genwizard, an interactive guide to tracing Irish roots; Timelines; the Galleries of Photographs; Maps; and Genealogy Workshops, a series of articles providing information on Irish sources, research services and using the website’s tools. The site also has a Personal Portfolio feature whereby users can assemble and organize the sources relevant to the families they are researching into specific folders. This website offers much more than what appears in this article. There is an inestimable value to having Griffith’s Valuation with links to the corresponding Ordnance Survey Maps at your fingertips. /Otherdays.com/ is a tremendous resource for anyone tracing Irish ancestry! * Please note that this benefit is not available to Institutional Members at this time. *Explore /Otherdays.com/ at www.newenglandancestors.org/research/database/Individual/default.asp <http://rd.bcentral.com/?ID=1931625&s=46351870>.* -- --- Richard A. Can anyone tell me email address of P.R.O.N.I. I have tried two, but each returned. Also does anyone know whether you can purchase photocopies of documents from same? Thank Lorraine
My Grandfather, Thomas Scally was born on 10/20/ 1893 in Carrowbehy, which is in the county of Roscommon. From Thomas's birth certificate, I know his parents were William and Eleanor Boyne. I have a copy of the baptismal certificate, for the Diocese of Elphin, in the Parish of Longhglynn. : I know from the 1901 census, that William was a farmer, and there were now four children. Thomas, Thady, Anne and Michael. From my grandfather Thomas, Eleanor died young and William remarried. There were three more sons from the second wife, John, Patrick and William. All four of the children from Eleanor came to American in the 1920's and never went back to visit. The three sons from the second marriage did not marry and stayed in Ireland. I am trying to find information on Eleanor Boyne whose Father was Thomas, this came from the marriage certificate. This is all the information I have.
The GenWeb County Tipperary website has been updated. The following 1766 Religious Census civil parishes have been added from Mary Heaphy's posting to the CoTipperary (with her permission): Kilfeacle, Tipperary, Templenoe, Clonbollogue, Ardmayle, Gail, Ballysheehan and Erry. The data is presented two ways, one as posted and all together in a database with other civil parishes and sorted by surname for over 3,000 entries. I have also added or updated the following townlands with pictures, maps, surnames and/or records submitted by posters to this list and others: Moheragh, Ballytarsna, Ballytarsna Hackett, Tankerstown, Monsea, Emly, Nenagh, Thurles, Terryglass, Ballydrehid, Roscrea, Cappagh White, Ballyporeen, Borrisleigh, Templemore, Cullen, Birchgrove, Burgesbeg, Bohercrow, Sadlierswells, Carron, Carrownreddy, Boheravendrum, Ballinvee, Ballynilard, Barronstown, Greenrath, Murgasty, Pegsborough, Ratheaveen, Roseborough, Spital-land, Springfield, Tipperaryhills, and Tipperary Town. Pete Schermerhorn at PeteScherm@aol.com wrote << Fairhill is a townland in Killoscobe civil parish, just a mile NE of Menlough town. >> Thank you for pointing that out. I overlooked it when I looked at the townlands listed in the Family History Library catalog for the 1911 census of the parish of Killoscobe. I can now determine that the 1901 census of Fairhill is on FHL film # 0837779 and the 1911 census is on FHL film # 1840338. Jack
Someone at GrnGenes67@aol.com writes: << Fair Hill is not the name of a townland in that parish. >> Fairhill is a townland in Killoscobe civil parish, just a mile NE of Menlough town. The slight change in the name doesn't disqualify it <gr>. Pete Schermerhorn, in the glorious Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts
Pat GrannyPat5@aol.com wrote << If any one has access to the 1901 census for Fair Hill, County Galway, civil parish Killascobe, could you do a look up ... Or tell me how to get a copy? >> You can go to a Family History Center and order microfilm of the 1901 census on loan. The parish of Killoscobe, Co. is mostly on film 837779 with the rest on film 837778. If you knew the townland, it would be possible to specify the proper film. Fair Hill is not the name of a townland in that parish.
If any one has access to the 1901 census for Fair Hill, County Galway, civil Parish, Killascobe, could you do a look up for James D'Arcy, wife Margaret and tell me the children with them? Or tell me how to get a copy? Thank you. Pat

This month I took over responsibilities for the Ireland GenWeb County Mayo website and have re-organized it. It now has a section for town(land)s. I plan to get webpages up for as many town(land)s as possible. So far I have added the following town pages to the website: Aghagower, Balla, Ballaghaderreen, Ballina, Ballindine, Ballinrobe, Ballycastle, Ballyhaunis, Bellavary, Belmullet, Binghamstown, Bundorragha, Carrowmore, Castlebar, Clare, Cong, Foxford, Hollymount, Keeloges, Louisburgh, Rathgranagher and Termoncarragh. Each town(land) page gives info on RC church records available and their LDS film number, plus the film numbers for the Tithe Applotments and Griffiths Valuation for the town(land)....if you have pictures, surnames, links, databases for any of these townland pages, I would be happy to get them on these pages if you send them to me off line.
